The 58th Viper Air Wing formed during the first Cylon War with three Squadrons of Viper mk 2's. The Air Wing had one of the highest kill ratios, and operated off the Battlestar Galactica prior to the Battlestar's refit. After the war, the 58th was scheduled to be disbanded but was saved when the Galactica was put in for refit. The 58th Air Wing, however, was down sized to 2 Squadrons. After the refit the Air Wing increased to 3 Squadrons and operated for 10 years off the Galactica before being selected for Operations off the new Mercury class Battlestar. The 58th Air Wing Squadron continued to operate on the Mercury class Battlestar for 20 years before moving to the Battlestar Pegasus, where it is currently stationed.

Welcome to the 58th Viper Air Wing. This is the First Combat Squadron for Battlestar Galactica: Beyond the Red Line. We've had some ups and downs, but we're now looking at having 9 Squadrons of pilots ready to take on the Cylon threat. Although the 9 Squadrons are generally full, we are always looking for people who would be willing to sign up, should one of our pilots step back.
