The Chief has made some minor adjustments to the site, and this has enabled us to restore the music to the page. In honour of this and the release of Battlestar Galactica's 3rd Season
Soundtrack being released, the music is set to "All Along the Watchtower" for a bit. Enjoy.

The Chief also realised that this website is now over a year old. It was created way back in August 2006. Wonderful stuff.

In closing, the Major is away for a while, and he has passed responsibility of the Wing over to
Gulo.

16th July, 2007
Once again, another reform has been done. As can be seen, we've gone and removed some of our squadrons due to a lack of participation. Hopefully this will see some more activity going on around the 58th.

The Major commented on July 15th being a big day, because there was to be a server running all day for people to join as they pleased, and also because the site was getting a huge overhaul. As
far as the Chief can figure out, no one was able to find the server, although whether that was due to some setting issue or due to the Major not having the server up and running, who knows?

However, on the issue of the site overhaul, many pilots may be confused. Where are the changes? The answer is that there aren't really any changes. The irrelevant squadrons have been removed,
and the remaining squadrons now have the callsigns of the pilots that are assigned there. However, these are not in a list of rank due to our latest idea of assigning ranks according to skill and leadership. Once that is done (something that the Major is sorting out) there will be more to put in
to the site again.

Anyone who was expecting the site to look completely different is in for a surprise. There didn't appear to be any complaints with the way the site was before the idea of an overhaul came
around, and there were no suggestions on what the overhaul should have included, so there didn't seem much point in changing it. The Chief could be wrong though, and if you think he was then
you should let him know so that he can work on it.

Oh, and one final thing. The Bio page is completely out of date, and now that we're sure on the
pilots that we have, the Chief has gone and removed the page for a while until it gets cleaned up
with every pilot's bio.

17th May, 2007
Alright, pilots, Listen up!

For those of you that don't check the forum, there is a planned training sortie being organised by
the Major. These will be running so that individual squadrons can go head-to-head and get some more practice in.

The dates and squadrons are as follows:

Blue and White Squadron: Friday 18th May, 2100 hours GMT
Red and Gold Squadron: Saturday 19th May, 2100 hours GMT
Orange and Purple Squadron: Sunday 20th May, 1900 hours GMT

These are the only planned events for this week. The remaining Squadrons will have their event on the following weekend, with exact dates and times to be announced. Watch this space.

28th April, 2007
Pilots, visitors, and anyone else who you can think of, may I introduce the 58th Viper Air Wing,
Mark II!

The chief has been putting off adding the updated site on to here, since he wanted all Squadrons
to have some information to their page. But he resided himself to the fact that it was "easier said than done" and has decided to upload all that he has now.

For those that aren't looking particularly hard (after all, it looks almost identical from first glances), the squadrons have been removed from the main navigation page. Instead, due to the number of squadrons, an extra navigation page has been added. This can be found by selecting the "Squadrons" button on the main page.

There are plans for more updates (for example, trying to get the music back to the site for those
that enjoyed it), but these can wait a while yet.

6th April, 2007
Well we seem to have fallen in to a bit of disrepair over the past few months. Apologies on that
one, but when there isn't much news to report then there isn't much point in making random news posts on the Website.

However, this is changing as of now...ish. During the lack of inactivity on the website, I'm sure the pilots have been aware that there has been quite a bit of activity on the forums. This has mostly been kicked off due to the release of the BtRL demo! This is one step closer to what we've all been waiting for, and this step allows us to start playing the game against other players. But before you all go racing to your Vipers, there are a couple of other things that will be mentioned in this post.

The squadrons were changed a while back, as those who check the forums are aware. However, with the change in the squadrons we also found that some people had wandered off, and we've
been unable to reach them. As a result, we have been set up the threads on the forums asking
each squadron to sign in. Those pilots that don't sign in will be taken off the squadron, and other pilots will take their place. No one is exempt from this rule, something that will be made apparent next.

We all know that our CAG, Hawkie, has been missing for a while. Lightning has decided to offer
him an ultimatum that says if he can't get back to the Wing in the next 2 weeks then we'll remove him and fill his position. Should he choose to later rejoin the Wing, he'll be bumped to the top of
the waiting list, and as soon as a space opens up he'll be placed in the 58th and he'll be bumped back up to CAG. This seems only reasonable considering that the whole idea of the 58th Viper Air Wing was Hawkie's.

And so there we go. Expect a quicker rate of news updates soon. There's going to be a lot going on...

24th February, 2007
We hope everyone had a good holiday, whether it be Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, whatever
the Jedi Religion celebrates, or any other religion. And of course, we hope that the New Year celebrations were good.

If you head over to the forums, you'll notice that we're in the middle of making some changes to
the 58th Viper Air Wing. That's part of the reason for the lack of updates. The second reason is
that 2 of the 3 people in command of the 58th have run in to difficulties over the holidays, and so decision making has been a slow progress. Needless to say though, things are still moving
forwards, even if not FTL.

A final little update, if you head over to the "Crews and Biographies" section of the site then you'll notice that Captain Lupis is looking slightly more sinister than before. Everyone (Cylons
especially) take note, he's not someone to be messed around with...

11th December, 2006
It's been a while since there was an update on the site due to various reasons. The Chief thought it would be an idea to post something here, even if it has already been placed on the forum...

Christmas is approaching fast, and people are doing different things. As it is a time that is spent
with the family, many people won't be around as often as they usually are. Major Pym is one of those people, and the Chief is another.

Since Major Pym is the one who makes the decisions on recruitment, there is a small backlog of people wishing to join. We haven't forgotten about those people, it's just that we have other things going on right now.

To that end, recruitment is on hold for the moment. That doesn't mean you can't still sign up if
you're interested. It just means that you shouldn't expect a reply or acknowledgement for a while.
If you are interested in signing up, head over to this thread and add your name in there. We'll get to you eventually.

Merry Christmas guys.

9th November, 2006
The last planned flight practice didn't happen due to unexpected plans. However, another one is being planned for sometime soon. Keep your eyes on the website and forums guys.

Also, there are a couple more diaries now up on the site. Go and check them out and find out how the pilots are feeling about their missions.

2nd November, 2006
With the success of the last match organised by Lightning, another one has been planned for this Sunday (5th November). Same time (17:00 gmt). Wolfman is being kind enough to be the hoster,
so any further questions should probably be directed at either Wolfman or Lightning.

26th October, 2006
Lightning has asked for all pilots to attend a flight training course. It's more to get a feel for the
game than to actually test your skill and abilities, since BtRL will be different to Freespace 2.

For this meeting, you will need Freespace 2. Karajorma was kind enough to post the links to the download in this post. The entire thread on the subject can be found here.

The online meeting will take place at 17:00 GMT on Sunday, 29th October. For those that aren't
sure about their timezones, this link might come in handy.

And finally, the pilot diaries section of the site will be up and running soon. The Deck Chief has some other things to work on, but should have it up by the end of the night.

23rd October, 2006
Some minor tweaks to the pilot's bio's in light of recent occurances. Also, the music has been changed. Since it was down to a majority vote, there is not much point in asking for the tune to be named. It's the "Colonial Anthem."

Finally, in an attempt to make the squadron more uniform, all pilots enlisted in the 58th Viper Air Wing are to change their forum avatars to show their pin rankings. For those that want a reference, the pictures being used as default can be found here.

20th October, 2006
Some more pilots have signed up to join the cause against the Cylons. Everyone welcome our
three newest recruits, Wolfman, Nova and Ghost. Their bios are on our crew and biographies page for all to see.

3rd October, 2006
Let the whole Squadron give a warm welcome to our latest new pilot, Sidewinder. He will be taking the Star Wolves' Secondry Position. You can find his bio on the Crew and Biographies page.

The Deck Chief has also noticed that there are still several pilots that haven't submitted a bio for themselves. It might not be compulsory, but it makes the site look nice if people do these things. Head to the forum thread and tell the Squadron about yourself.

15th September, 2006
There haven't been some updates for a while, due to various reasons. To begin with, the DNS (the address you type in to get to the site) was out of action, and so the only way to get to Game-Warden was by using the direct IP address. However, this didn't let you access the 58th Air Wing's website.

Also, the Deck Chief was moving (he forgot to mention that to anyone, sorry) and so he was
unable to provide updates. However he's back around and ready to handle future things. It just
might take a bit more time than usual.

In other news, BSG has started releasing their webisodes on to the Internet. However, some
people have been mentioning that they're unable to get hold of the webisodes. The Deck Chief's opinion is that this is just for people in European countries at the moment. But if you really want to get hold of them, and don't yet know of somewhere to get them, check out this link. It has all of
the released webisodes in a downloadable format.

Finally, the music has been changed on this site. The Deck Chief was getting tired of "Prelude to War." Anyone that can name the title of this tune gets a cookie...and possibly some psychiatric help for knowing too much about the BSG music.

1st September, 2006
Game-Warden's main site now has a message explaining about how they're changing servers.
This still means that for the moment the forums are down though, so people can contact the Deck Chief if they need to get a message to the Air Wing. The Deck Chief has also gone and added his email address to his (newly added) bio under the "crew and bios" section for anyone to use if they need something sorting.

On the note of communication, the Deck Chief would like to organise some kind of meeting
between the Squadron Leaders and himself. Lightning brought up a point about craft-specific squadrons that no one can answer on their own, and so it'll require the squadron leaders to be present, as well as the Deck Chief who will be making the changes as necessary. If the squadron leaders could use the Deck Chief's email address, a meeting can be made that suits everyone, no matter where they are.

30th August, 2006
We're sure you guys were aware that the site was down for a bit. In case you didn't know, the
whole of the game-warden site was out of action for a while, but it seems to be back up and
running. However, the forums still aren't around which means that communication between crew members is limited.

It hasn't been discussed with the officers, however should any crew member need to contact someone within the ranks, the Deck Chief will be able to leave a notice on the main page of the
site, allowing some rudimentry form of communication until the forums are around (that could be hours, it could be a few more days). To contact the Deck Chief, an email can be sent to this address. The message recieved will then be placed on this main page ASAP.
UPDATE:Thanks to Draco, all 4 squadrons now have their awesome patches. Wear them with pride!

25th August, 2006
Some changes made, specifically to the rankings, squad patches, music and the now-stationary background.

We've gone and added a new flight and wingman section to each squadron as well. This is for the people that are waiting for open positions in the Squadron.

Until we get in the air, this is basically all that the main page will consist of, updates on the site. Although there may be times where the Squadron Leaders need to meet with everyone using an Instant Messenger, so it'll be best to just keep checking here now and again.

24th August, 2006
Alright nuggets, listen up! The 58th Viper Air Wing's new website is up and running. We've still got some bugs to sort out (especially for those of you still using Internet Explorer) and some other things to update, such as new crew member's bios. But stick with us, we'll get it sorted.

We're aware that the buttons won't look that great if you're using Internet Explorer. This has got something to do with the fact that IE wants to put spaces between the buttons even though it
hasn't been told to. Also, the buttons use an Active X control (or something) that IE automatically blocks. The solution for the Active X control is to look at the top of the page, where some yellowy banner says to click to get options. click it, and select the "Allow Active X controls on this page" option. Then highlight the buttons to see the (very minor) effect. Better than nothing though, right?

The easiest solution all round though would be to stop being a nugget, and frackin' get
Get Firefox!

Finally, while putting the site together, the head of maintenance realised that several latest crew members haven't yet submitted a bio for themselves. Sure it's just a bit of fun, but it would be
good if more crew members submitted something.
