Guys! I've got PC game maker called RPG maker 2000 and RPG maker 2003. You heard of it? I have some new Demos too. Click here for a web site on RPG maker.Downloads (http://www.crankeye.com/index.php?page=downlaods)

I'm sorta familiar with the program. Never did anything big with it, although my little brother uses it a ton for himself.

So, how is this going to help us? I can't really see how we can use it to help the mod along.

Sure, we're going to toss everything we've worked on so far and start working on a RPG.

Wait... no, I don't like that idea. :p

I ment like a practice demo or another copy of the game.
If we're going to create a copy on RPG Maker I'll need a few members to help me. Go to M.E.F. Team Blog (http://mefteamblog.blogspot.com) to help. :biggrin1:

RPG maker will not work with what we are doing. We are creating a 3D shooter where RPG maker makes 2D Final Fantasy like games.

Well I'm glad somebody knows well of RPG2003. I'm directing a project called E96 thats being made out of it. I'm also makin the sound effects for it. The thing I always wonder, is why its so damn hard to find.

Because, if I remember what I read correctly, it is actually an illegal pirated version.

DaBrain

AFIAK they neither sell it outside Japan, nor it was licensed over here.

If someone in the western world has it, it's probably pirated.
Actually, the developer probably doesn't care though, cause those people were not able to buy it anyway.

But it's still illegal.

Axem

FS2 is the same thing. It isn't freeware, the publisher may not care (or is bankrupt), but its still illegal to download it.

Oh really? I thought it was total abandonware. Of course the sites that I've found it on are mostly servers in Tailand and Vietnam. I hate it when websites give you the wrong information.

Axem

Abandonware is still illegal. The uploading of a program without the owner's consent is illegal, abandonware just makes the assumption that after a long time, they don't care. Most cases, yeah, they don't care.

Anubis

So, its still illegal, just nobody enforces it to that particular title anymore, correct?

Axem
10-03-2005, 08:44 PM
Yeah, that's about it. HotU is kind of proof of that. They would've been shut down long ago if they were really cracking down on downloads of old games.

Check my FAQ Anubis. I've given a fairly detailed explaination of all the reasons why grabbing a copy of Freespace can be considered legal in some cases but illegal in others.

So thats why games like Descent 3 and FS2 didn't make it, three words (Lack of advertising.) I totally blame Interplay, those guys don't really care about their games, and they obviously do a lot of old school advertising. What do they think their still in the early nindies or something, where games are sold by telephone and mailing? And why hold on to those licenses, their not really doing much with any of their games anyway.

About FS2, so ur allowd to burn copies and give them away, as long as your not selling them.

We don’t know if Interplay even has them any more. The company effectively went bankrupt a while ago. In order to cover some of their debts the sold many of their games licenses. Bethesda got the Fallout license, Atari got the Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale licenses, and the rest are unknown. We know a developer did show an interest in the Freespace license a while ago. I won’t go into the details of that mess but suffice to say we hope he never gets it. :shaking:

Yes, Derek (not so) Smart showed an interest in it, but then decided he wanted to do something else.

That guy is a real piece of work. You might be interested to know that the Starfleet Command community at Dynaverse.net thinks as little of him as you do. Perhaps even less. He had been a member of the forums for a while, from what I understand, but was banned. I don't have the whole story. Nobody there wants to talk about him. Can't say as I blame them.

He’s not really liked anywhere on the net. I don’t think there is a forum on the planet that he doesn’t control where he hasn’t gotten in massive flame wars. I found this page over at Flame War Follies that really sheds some light on his behavior. Click Me! (http://www.werewolves.org/~follies/why.html)

Anubis

Hold on, is Derek smart the owner of a software company or something and what exactly is wrong with him having the Freespace 2 license? :confused1
Above all who is he exactly?

DaBrain

His games are for a 'special' audience. In other words: His games are pretty bad. There aren't many people who like his games.

I have to be honest though. The concepts of his games are pretty impressive.

I won't deny it's possible that Derek Smart comes up with a nice Freespace 3, but I doubt it.

Axem
10-20-2005, 12:19 AM
Indeed. Derek Smart caters to a very small group of people. His games are typically... everything. They don't focus on one single thing. Which means instead of having, say a great flight engine, or a great fps engine, its a subpar flight/fps/everything engine. There's too much to do.

Okay, sucky games aren't a great reason to make fun of the man, but its his personality with his "I'm right, you're wrong. I'm a 'Doctor' you're just a whiny fanboy over the internet. etc" Persona.

I looked at some of Derek Dumb****s games and guess what, they really suck! He also thinks his games are the best ones around, vanity will get him no where.
