That's right. We've delayed this for a long time. Actually we didn't need our own coder for a long time. Thanks to the SCP team. :)

But we really need one now. Not only for coding a few things, but also for some advice.

We probably won't need any special D3D or OpenGL coding. Only API independent stuff.

I really hope one of the SCP coders will help us, but I'd be also happy to welcome a new C++ coder.

You're going ot make your own changes to the FS2 source? I have but one thing to ask. Please make sure it remains compilable on Linux? It'd be a darn shame if I couldn't play it. :/

I doubt SoL will be forking the source code to do their own thing. What DaBrain is after is a staff coder who will make his teams requests a priority above those of other modding teams.

I think he's only likely to get one from the StarFox community rather than the FS2 one but we can only wait and see :)

What Star Fox community?

Gamefaqs? The NSider Forums? IGN Boards? :nervous:

:p

There's not much of a solid Star Fox community left really. The best place there is is Arwing Landing. While we're sorta popular there, I don't know if we can get the expertise from the community.

I would want to help, but my programming knowledge with C and C++ is making microcontrollers work.

I know of someone who knows someone who is a programmer for ATi as well as a Star Fox fan.

Don't get your hopes up too high, though. I haven't seen this person in a while.

I've been pimping SoL at various SF boards (AL included) that I am a member of. I'll post this request at those places too.

Yupp, correct. I think some of our requests will never be worked on, although they are essential for our mod.

Great idea, I hope we'll find a coder. This ATI guy sound pretty interesting. ;)

Thing is, even if you get someone to mod the source code as you need, can you be sure the changes will be put into the FS2 SCP? Most projects I know would not be terribly receptive to that, unless it was simple things that were a good general idea. The more complex the change is, the more they have to look it over to make sure it won't cause problems later (nothing like not knowing what's in your own code). And the more specific the change is, the less willing they could be to include it since very few would use it (and believe me, on big projects you don't want to go including a bunch of extra code that maybe only one or two people will make use of).

But if it's something that would be added that didn't require much, if any, work on the part of the SCPers, then does it really matter? That's why we're looking for a coder that will cater to us.

Besides, I'm sure that if anyone is going to start messing with the SCP, they would probably be acquainted with the others working on it, be on the team itself, and understand what they're doing enough to have the code work correctly.

The code addtions are all going to be part of the SCP, so all mods may use them. We're not working on our own source version.

Of course not. Forking the code to support one particular mod would be bloody stupid. Not only would you pretty much lose the advantage of all the stuff being added on a daily basis to the main branch (until you can get your coder to add it) you'd also risk being royally stuffed if he ever left for some reason.
