I think there should be a bulliten for ip addresses when Freespace net is down. That way, if any1 has the urge to blow some stuff up, they get it.:biggrin1: So if any1 would host games, post your ip address up or catch me on MSN messenger.

i dont think fs2netd is comming back. so we just need to keep our fingers crossed on my friend orlanth on his PXO that he finished, we all need to get him to start it up, he doesnt think anybody will be playing on it, so thats why it isnt already up. I think all of those who want our multiplayer back should post on here as if it were a petition, then after we get everyone on it, ill forward the link to him. I hope this will convince him to make pxo public.

I am interested. Anyway, i am very new at freespace, what does it mean, if I add IP adresses in the config dialog (F2) in multiplayer settings?

I find it easier to just enter it into the tcp.cfg which is located in your data folder

FS2NetD server still isn't 100%, but it is back. It just needs testing now so any other bugs can be fixed.

Yes but taylor, we would not only like a functioning multiplayer we want pxo back. The lobby is one of the things people enjoy having. Dont get me wrong, FS2netD is great to have, i will give you that credit.

Yes you can do that, make sure you dont put it under IPX

Agreed, and the official PXO server from SCP is in the works. But it needs a complete rewrite on the server side and that takes time. Client side is mostly done but still needs work, CFM needs PHP and MySQL porting, IRC server is done, but the trackers have barely been started yet and those basically have to be scrapped and done over from scratch.
FS2NetD is still needed in the meantime though so I pitched in to help MatthewPapa out with that.

Im glad to hear we are making progress, and it is a great thing to know that a PXO is still in progress that i know will eventually be released, in the mean time, im still going to try to convince Orlanth to release PXO. We all like having things "NOW" lol

That's fine. Can't say that I have a problem with that.
Some people do like to use FS2_Open for multiplayer though, and some don't have a choice (mods, non-Windows users), so it is important to have FS2NetD back up and going for all of them. Plus we can't fix the multi bugs in FS2_Open if people don't use it so if nothing else it will allow us to get multi back to 100% in FS2_Open.

if FS2Open was more stable and had as many multiplayer options as Toms build i would use it but it isnt. It crashes constantly on me and Behaves differently

And that's what we are trying to fix. A ton of bugs, both crash and behavior, have been fixed so it's a lot better than it used to be. The main problem is that not many of the developers actually play multi so it's difficult to find/identify problems. There has been a lot of work in the past couple of months to restore behavior to more of a retail feel and that seems to be helping a lot. MANY crash bugs have been fixed and with the help of the Linux and OS X people quite a few network specific issues have been quickly identified and fixed as well.
There are still issues, can't hide that fact, but it's getting better.

It still needs the additional features that tom included. And having the build detect what build people are using when they enter the game is very useful, one of tomsbuilds features. The only problem with toms build that i have is that i cant use it to play non fs2netd multiplayer games, so i have to use the retail build for that.

He would have to give us the changes in order for us to incorporate them back into FS2_Open. I don't use Tom's build, since I don't use Windows, so I don't really have any idea what it does over FS2_Open.

heh, i just run windows because its compatible with everything, im sure linux is a great system to run, but i run programs that work only for windows so it would be a bad switch.
But anyways, try toms on a friends computer or something, it would be a good idea to know what toms build can do, so you can incorperate the features, or add your own that are even better.
Im also thinking about getting into fredding again, i made quite a few missions that were kickass for multi, back in the pxo days, i dont have them anymore because (1) they didnt get validated. (2) i format my HD every 6 months.
As far as the whole pxo thing goes, I think as soon as its ready for testing, we oughta have all the netd people switch over IMO to get it debuged quicker. Im sure they will like PXO more :)
