2. Massive Bandwidth Usage (10 mb/s!!!)
3. Other malicious activities

If you would still like to download these files please post a request here. They are currently only available for registered forum users only. It will be this way until I figure out some way to better regulate downloads. Web space will still be available to anyone who wants it due to the fact that it doesnt take up near as much bandwidth and is less likely to be "violated."

Hosted files are, and always will be unaffected.

Freespace tools and editors
Freespace Movies
etc, etc, etc

Hi, I'm wondering if there is a possibility that the freespace files will be going back up again. I followed the link from the HLP boards (thanks for that link) and was just a few percent from downloading the last ISO when they were taken down. So will they be up any time in the future or have those damn hackers brought them down for good? Thanks for any replies.

Man, the connection really gets choked really fast for bandwidth whenever I put up the files for public download. There is something like 18 people (or at least different IP addresses) downloading right now. If the site seems slow, thats probably why :) . I diddnt realize that there were that many people who wanted files from this site...

I am removing the files from download in a little more than 28 hours because I dont want this to affect the hosted sections too badly.

I think the main problem is that there are people that have multiple downloads going at one time. You guys are lucky I am on vacation so I cant pull the plug :) . As soon as I get home though I am going to shut it down for a while. I highly suggest you use download managers when downloading.

Allright, thats the last straw. I have now received multiple complaints from project leaders about and the problem is too big to simply ignore anymore. As soon as I get home (which should be early tommorow if I get to the airport on time) I will reset the downloads section. You will have to request permission again by posting a request for access in this thread. You can go ahead and get a head start in line by requesting to be placed in line right now.

This bandwidth usage is simply outrageous. Now there are 24 different IP addresses connected currently and most of them are downloading 5 or more files at once. I guess thats too much for even a 10 mb/s fiber optic line to handle. Server should be a lot faster once the new downlaod system is fully in place though. The reason I dont totally abandon downloads completely is because Game Warden is the last place on the web (besides p2p) that people can download the Freespace ISO's. More details will be posted on this issue are decided.....

I have now received multiple complaints from project leaders about the lack of bandwidth due to people downloading the Freespace ISO files. The files section has now been reset and you will now have to ask for a place in line in the thread (at the bottom of this message) to download the files. I am doing this now because the last time I checked there where 24 different IP's connected with most of them downloading 3 or more files at once. This was simply killing my connection bandwidth to where people had difficulty browsing the site and forums so I was forced to put some sort of organization in place. A bandwidth limiting system will be put in later on but for now request a place in line. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Though I went around this forum several times I didn't notice any delay. But it was probably because I already was streaming something from here. We are going to have to get either a limiter (lets say 10 people at a time) or you'll have to redistribute the iso's to other sites.

I've been putting off getting FS 2 for so long now, even though I was a big fan of the original... and downloading the HotU version months ago, I never even looked in the zip file. And now it seems that this is the only way for me to get the full version of the game.

EDIT: Hosting a bittorrent of these files would be alot more efficient, and my bandwidth could actually help out. If you need help such as making the torrents or a tracker to host them on, I can provide both, although the tracker I would provide should be thought of as a temporary solution.

Seems that my german version doesn't work for multiplayer with FS Open and want
to try if the english version works for me.

Which CD images are necessary to download for Freespace2 (german DVD version here) and don't want to download files i don't need :)

I have 99.82% downloaded files, with my checksums from md5 thingy matching yours and yet my cd2 is still corrupt !!! does checksum thingy give checksum in spite of incomplete file - i assumed that fs1 and silent threat were uncompleted since their checksums were different.

If the checksums differ for incomplete files i have maybe consequentially bad news for you - it implies that your cd2 is also corrupt ?!?!

You are downloading from me, and not MatthewPapa therefore Freespace 2 CD2 is going to be corrupt, and Freespace 1 CD1 is going to be corrupt.

BTW I've been connected to the tracker for sometime now yet your client still doesn't connect to me to finish. Please try using a different BT client so you may finish your download.

After that you'll have to wait to get the files fixed after MatthewPapa has the time to put up his BT.

I dled the HOTU version about a year ago and I managed to get most of the VP files, but i was a bit dissapointed. I had a difficult time following the storyline because of the lack of cutscenes etc..
I would like to give this fine space sim another chance, so I 'd like to make a request for these>>>>>>

For the SCP exes you'll need to go to HLP's (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/index.php?s=?cat=37) SCP forum. Download 3.6 or one of the more recent (but slightly more unstable) beta builds (found in the recent builds subforum).

FS2_Open will definately play the .avi files as long as your copy of media player will i.e you have divx 5.03 or above (and XVid for the FS1 movies if you want those too)

I'll have to get round to updating the FAQ one of these days. I forget that HotU users tend to find it fairly quickly :)

What you have to do depends on what you download. The ISO files need to be mounted using Dameon Tools or simply burnt to CDs.

The VP files are simply dragged and dropped into your main FS2 folder and then you make a copy of your data folder and rename the original.

I downloaded all 3 ISOs last night... anyways the first one seems fine, the game was installing and kept going right up to 66/67% and then asked for the second disk... so I stick in the second disk and it gives me this error:

I've tried reburning it at a different speed but I still get the same error. I've already started redownloading but I don't feel like waiting 4 hours... does anyone have any suggestions?

Your not the ony one who has had this error with CD 2 before. I am gonna rebuild an ISO from my original disk 2 and put it up for download, see id that works any better. It should be up in a few minutes.

Ok... I'm back... again. Here's what happened. Now, both the first and second CDs work fine, but now it's the third that's giving me trouble with the exact same error message.

Could you please PM me the new FTP link but first make a new ISO for CD3 and upload it? Since the download worked fine for CD2 when you uploaded anew I'm guessing the same will be true for CD3...

Hope that everyone had a merry Christmas. Well, as "the fates" would have it, my space in line for downloading came up as I was winging my way to West Coast to be with family for Christmas. They're great folks, but they don't have an Internet connection, so I got zero downloading done. I am fixing to clear about 3 people in the queue. This time I am RARing the ISO files so they will be about 30% smaller than they used to be. This line is getting bigger and bigger fast. I am thinking about purchasing a bigger connection or some high speed webspace somewhere so I wont have to deal with this anymore. If anyone would be interesed in helping me pay for this (mayb like a $1-$5 donation) , it would be greatly appreciated and would allow me to get the files to you all the more faster. Meanwhile I will try to clear this queue as effectively as possible. Your speeds might be a little lower than normal but it is something that has to be done.

Hey!!! you save the day man! i absolutely love this game and was disappointed to see that u cant get it anywhere (and kicking myself for ever losing it in the first place!!) but, behold before me, the power of dedicated and good willed gamers!! seriously, you saved the day... specially cuz i cant connect on edonkey, or kazaa or bittorrent!

anyways, enough with the praises... i got the HOTU hack job, Oracle says i only need these VPs:

stu_fs2.vp
warble_fs2.vp
tango1-3_fs2.vp
smarty_fs2.vp
and the videos to get the full version.. which i know is asking alot but its such a great game...


EDIT pfff, brado's outta of it, ummm... i dunno if u have the vps since i see everyone's asking for the isos but any help is appreciated!

You should actually get all the VP files. Those ones are just the minimum you need to get things to work (And it will require a small amount of work from you to get just those to work). If you get all the VP files you can simply remove the data folder and everything will work.

(I gave the minimums on the FAQ for people with slow connections :D )

oh, olrite, its all gravy with my conn but its just been sooo frustrating finding a solid FTP or client to get these from! im all giddy that ill be able to finally blast some shivans, i dont care how many files it takes!

Please note that site files access is about to be suspended temporarily so that the move will got as smooth as possible. If all goes according to plan you wont have to put up with a download queue any more.
