Well... I just reformatted my HDD and now my computer cant see my SATA HDD... its my secondary drive, its set as master on the secondary drives. Ive installed all the motherboard drivers, played with bios a bit... that didnt work so i switched it back, i fliped the drives around a bit, still nothing, what should I do? :confused1
( I learned my lesson not to get anything BUT SCSI or IDE/ATA HDD's )

Chreck the documentation could be you should stream the drivers in your windows.
You can do so with isobuilder.
I had the same problem with my laptop.

Right click on my computer and choose manage. Or look for administration tools in the control panel.

theres nothing about my SATA HDD in there
You need to install the drivers. I had the same problem when setting up a friends computer.
Find out the brand or whatever of the HDD and motherboard, and google around for the drivers on the net. :)

Also, make sure that the bios is set to the correct speed for your SATA drive. SATA 150 drives are often not recognised if your SATA controller is running at SATA 2 (SATA 300).
So I'd check the bios, ensure that the SATA contoller is enabled and set to the correct speed; then ensure that the SATA drivers for your motherboard are installed. Oh, and swearing and threatening to destroy your PC may not help, but it might make you feel better!

bios only offers two options, IDE and RAID O.o
Ive tried raid and pluged my sata hd into the sata raid plugs but still nothing, it was set like that before however so im going to leave it there, and yes, in hardware management control panel it says theres a RAID driver missing, i had the drivers for one RAID controler, but theres another thats missing a driver... I'll check it out when i get home today.

In theory, you shouldn't need to update the bios, if all you've done is re-install Windows. With luck, you should just need a driver install. Often when the computer boots runnning a raid controller, after the post, and before Windows loads, you may see a message saying something along the lines of (this is from memory :P) "Raid Promise Controller- press esc to enter setup" like the bios setup message, so that may be worth looking out for.

Pretty weird, as SATA HDD do not have such things as Master or Slave.
I know there are some troubles with SATA2 drives on certain SATA1 chipsets. But if it was working right before, then I can't see how it could have changed...
In any case, could you state the HDD company, model and size, and the chipset from your motherboard ?

The maxtor site is the worst possible site to get support, unfortunately.
I found your Hard drive product number, which is L01M120, but it doesn't appear in their dropdown list (althought about 150 other drives appear there).
I once had a problem with a specific HD-Chipset combination, and was looking for the same result here, but it seems Maxtor doesn't want us to know. Anyway, try to find some drivers, and pray every night :)

Driver problem, almost certainly.
IIRC WinXP doesn't ship with SATA drivers. Win2k certainly doesn't; I had to load mine from a floppy. (The installer didn't let you use a CD and streaming them didn't work.)

Try this driver http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/ide/pdc20378/378ata_100104528.zip
if you browse through the Asus website you'll find other drivers as well. Eventually. It's not that easy to navigate their download section.

yay its working again, turns out the power thing kept getting unplugged one of the times i was fooling around with the sata hd, and since theres so many fucking cables all over the place i didnt notice, the cord was attached to the hdd but the other end of the cord wasnt attached to anything, so it was hard to notice that, and, the Promise chip needed the right driver which it kept installing the wrong one.

I suggest Driver Guide (http://www.driverguide.com). They have the largest collection of all drivers in existence.

Please dont post in old threads that have been resolved.

Some people have problems with winxp SP2 and SATA disks. Installer just not recognise drivers if u insert diskette during installation. I had the same problem and had to install SP1 winxp.
