A friend and I have identical copies of freespace 2, and we're wondering what we need in order to start an IP game. We've followed all of the steps outlined on this site and still aren't having any luck.
We opened all of the required ports, and entered the IP of the machine that was hosting into the Multi tab. Do you have to do anything special to connect to a IP? Or will it just do it on it's own once you have entered it into the multi tab, under options.
Please help us out if you're able. We crave awesome space dogfights.
Thanks Guys.

the person hosting cannot have any firewall of any kind, or must be on DMZ mode, from my personal experience. Ive had firewalls, and NEVER been able to host with them.

Thanks.. we'll try that. Do you have to do anything special once you've actually entered the IP Address? It didn't seem to be working even when we were trying to do it across a LAN

You can have a firewall and host successfully with one. You'll have to understand port forwarding if you're talking about a hardware firewall of some kind though.
Are you remembering to click the PXO button? Cause if that is still lit FS2 will ignore the IP settings and go looking for PXO/FS2NetD

Which button? In the vanilla FS2 launcher? - oops, didn't think that to effect SCP... :nervous:
[edit] Hope that doesn't count as reviving dead topics... :nervous:

Once in-game press F2 and go to the multi player options. Check if the PXO button is lit. If so click it so it turns off.
So it's in the options menu... wasn't aware of it (the button) - thanks. :)

What version of FS2 or FS2_Open are you using to get that?

I use standard fs2_open_367 build and launcher 5.3

Try 3.6.9 RC3 and Launcher 5.4. It's hard (and pointless) to troubleshoot a build that old because I can't look at the code and cause the problem may have been fixed anyway.

Nearly all the downloads on SCP site are atm a bit dated... Try finding them from Hard Light Productions (www.hard-light.net/forums/) instead (which is the current hub anyway). There you should be able to find links to 3.6.8 (something) mediavps as well as current 3.6.9 RC 4 build and related graphic fixes.
