Okay, here it is. The million dollar question. With StarFox Command on the horizon we all are thinking about the gameplay, and because we're all thinking about gameplay makes us remember the good old days. So tell us, which StarFox game is your all-time favorite and tell us why?

hmm, cause you aren't limited to flying around shooting stuff, you could get out on foot and kill stuff too

obviously not a good reason, since FS can't do that

I like Star Fox assault personally. To me it's one of the best Star Fox games out there, and the gameplay and graphics are superior. I also like it because of the new arwing (my personal favorite) and intensity of some of the battles.
Also you get to team up with Star Wolf at some parts of the game instead of fighting as rivals.

Call me mildly old-fashioned, but I still like Star Fox 64 the most. Partly because it was first game I got for the Nintendo 64, and also because its simple. No really complicated plotline, just straight action, action, action.

I have to give StarFox 64 the nod. While I love the styling of the Assault Arwing, I can play StarFox 64 over and over again. The gameplay is so solid. It feels like an extension of the SNES version, which in my opinion had some of the best music in the series, although the orchestrated music in Assault was undeniably badass. I did appreciate the story elements and manga-ish feel from Assault, but I felt like the game deviated too far from the original, it probably would have been my favorite StarFox if there were more traditional StarFox styled rail shooter levels. Still not a bad game though. I just happen to have the most fond memories of StarFox 64 which in its time really felt next-gen (back in 1997 or '98 right?) Hehe. Man, what a great game. I still love playing it today! I hope in any new StarFox games they add more railed levels, because thats what makes StarFox StarFox imo. :) The only other games I can think of that did it were 'Panzer Dragoon' and 'Sin and Punishment'. This particular game genre is absolutely my favorite!

mmmm... Star Fox 64, or as it is here, Lylat Wars get my vote... it introduced me to the series (no Snes), and was also the first game I got for the n64, fond memories XD.

But I do think it has the best gameplay of them all... its just spot on...
Assult lost it a bit, and the lack of branching progress drops that down a bit >.> (needed far more Arwing only missions), Adventures was just generic adventure gaming, though good... not great...
The original's great... but held back by technology... StarFox2's an intresting mid point between Starfox and 64, Id quite like to see the mechanic of protecting the Lylat system, with real time events taking place, expanded on... plus I feel srry for the new characters 2 would have introduced never getting the chance to live ;_;
XD

So.... yeah, Star Fox 64 all teh way.

From what I've seen of Command (not much) looks like it may be a nice return to form ^.^

I like sf64 the best.
landmaster missions + arwing + blue marine = great game! also, sf64 has none of the annoying 'all-range/on foot' missions, the graphis, for a nintendo 64, is exellenct, also, more shooting, explosions, and squarons ten the lot of them!

Star Fox and Star Fox 64 are two of my favourite games of all time. I give the slight edge the SNES original, just because of how groundbreaking it was at the time of its release, when all popular console games consisted primarily of 2D sprites. SF64 did a fantastic job of expanding on the original, and adding great new elements. While the music wasn't quite as good, I loved the overall atmosphere, and the excellent fully voiced dialogue added a whole lot.

OUT OF THIS DIMENSION is the best easter game in a game, ever.

I've got high hopes for Command, though I wish they could've added some classic on-rails levels, and the ability for vehicles to transform, like in Star Fox 2.

Assault and Adventures, on the other hand, made me want to smash things. =/

Adventures had high polish and production values, but remained the most tedious Zelda game I've ever played, while Assault had a totally non-sensical control scheme, horrid writing, vocal casting and direction and a total lack of on-rails tank missions, one of my favourite SF64 elements. ;_;

I could rant on those for hours, so I'll just end with: I hate Krystal and Panther. :)

SF64 is leading... It is a nice game, but still it's a bit sad to see the SNES game so far behind it...

Anyway, I've added SF Command to the list. I'm intertested how many people will vote for it. :)

I find it quite a shame that nobody likes Rares Starfox Adventures, Im guessing there will now be comments like

"BeCUz U HaD nO ShOOty BlastERzzzz!!!
ME wAnnA SHoot!"

Actuallly I hated starfox adventures the first time...

*everyone gasps*

But Then I played it the second time through and I thought..... "actually this game is great!"

Now I'm expecting comments like

"But MEE lYk arwingzzzz!!!"

Just face it the adventure was great!
There was no long pauses and loading screens in between
Movies, And the graphics were alot better than any other starfox game I've seen so far!

Starfox Was not a Zelda spinoff at all It Had nothing to do with Zelda, Just because He could hit people with a staff and roll Doesn't make it like zelda!

I would actuallly prefer an adventure game rather than just indivisual missions like assault...

If Starfox adventure had more arwings and maybe a blaster in well then...

Adventures + Assault = best game ever!

If you don't think Starfox adventures is good Play it the second time through, Believe me, Its Become my favourite!

The only two I've played are SF and Assault... And I've never really gotten that far in either of them, my self. SF because I was really young at the time and sucked at games, and Assault because we/I don't own it.

Starwing (the europe version of SF) Was an amazing game for its time, I was lucky enough to be born on the same year it came out! :p

It was one of the first 3D games!

Actually, the majority boos the other one: Assault. Adventures was actually praised for it's Zelda-like gameplay. It's actually the rail-shooters who don't like Adventures.

Assault, on the other hand, have a horrible development in characters, limited story, boring graphics, and the "gunner mode" have a horrible control scheme. The majority being a gunner sucks alot when the main thrill of the game is obviously the rail. If it weren't for the title, people would skip this over the Legend of Zelda games or Halo.

I'd have to say Starfox 64 has to be one of the most FUN games I've ever played. I played it back in '97, and played for the past few months (taking a break from it now).

I got some very high scores on that game too. My best Total Hits score is 2509 on Expert mode. :cool1:

I like the SNES Starfox alot too, mainly for its music, but it has some SERIOUSLY challenging levels.

I'm alright with Assault and Command (although I suck at Assault's foot missions). I didn't like Adventures though; it just felt like it deviated WAY too much from the traditional gameplay that it's known for.

i still think assault would have had a better chance at being best in the series if they had spent more time into thinking up the plot...

and control scheme...
and sound quality...
and graphical consistency...
and overall design...
and...

I really dislike Adventures and Assault. Probably Assault more than Adventures because at least Adventures can say it originally wasn't supposed to be a SF game. Assault has no excuse, it was so poorly executed in my opinion.

And before I go into rant more, I'll just say the Original SF was my choice for best game with SF2 or SF64 in close second

the graphics were fine! yeah the characters actually needed to have facial expressions in the com window, but otherwise the game had potential! and the sound! it WAS ORCHESTRATED! WHO can ARGUE WITH THAT?!

Fenix

The graphics were fine... some of the time. Some parts looked great, but others were really shoddy. The ground based missions come to mind, as the worlds and characters were painfully low rez and lacking in detail. As a result, the graphics were inconsistent.

The musical score was nicely done, if unoriginal. Don't misunderstand me, I did like the orchestrated songs a lot - but there was no new material at all (correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure about that). It just seemed kinda lame to me that they did nothing beyond redoing the already existing score.

My gripe about the sound quality was actually referring to the voices. Not the voice actors, but the actual sound quality of the recordings. It literally sounded like everything was recorded in some guy's living room. They all sound hollow and detached from the environment. At least Adventures got that part right.

Fox_McCloud3232

you are right about the sound quality of the voices, but there was some new music. orbital gate/ oikonnys fleet for example. and i checked your theory on the ground mission and you were correct about it being allot less detailed then the air battles.:nervous: ok you were right on a few things but i was also right:nod:
