You came, you saw, you registered, now tell us about yourself! Don't just say hi and lurk.... What makes you stand out from the crowd? (too bad I didn't think of this earlier)...

Axem
11-21-2004, 09:00 PM
Well, I'm Axem. I make missions, tables, and graphics. I also lurk a ton :p. People say I'm crazy, but the voices in my head tell me not to believe them. :nervous:

FusionStorm

I love Weather. That makes me kinda different.

DaBrain
11-21-2004, 11:22 PM
Hello, as you might have guessed by the name to the left, I'm DaBrain. :naughty:

I'm from germany, so I guess I'm evil and stuff. :naughty:

My speciality is 2d. I work on textures, effects, animations, interface and what's left in the 2d sector. Sometimes I'm forced to work with 3d models. Although I'm a noob when it comes to 3d models, I got used to work with skyboxes and some 3d effects.

I'm special because I'm.... uhmmm.... well... I'm extraordinary lazy. :)

BTW I'm the head leader of the Starfox mod (kinda). So if you are a modder and want to join, contact me. :)

DZComposer
11-22-2004, 04:05 AM
I am DZ, and I compose music incase you didn't get that from my name ;) .

I joined because I am a composer for the Shadows of Lyat mod.

I am a native Texan, but I'd rather listen to Vivaldi than Garth Brooks.

I specialize in Orchestral music. I hone my orchestration skills on music from the Nintendo game series, Star Fox, and when I saw the oportunity to compose for a Star Fox mod, I jumped at it.

Of course I do original work too. My music is available on both my site (http://www.classicalhorn.com) and (but a limited number of works) on http://www.vgmix.com. You can also hear (a) snippet(s) of my SoL score in the SoL forum.

And I'm special because I am a master of making typos@

I am ShadowWolf. lead fredder and POF developer for MT, and as of late I am working in my own story, Origins. I am currently hard at work on both mods. Come visit us in the Origins Forum (shameless pimping). lol

Hi, I'm AG, almost a professional lurker, having lurked more forums than I can remember. My interests are spaceflight, computers, and martial arts in no particular order. I am a fledgling programmer, with several private projects currently in some sort of progress.

I'm new to the FS2 community, so please, be gentle on me. :D

demonknight17
11-29-2004, 08:39 PM
I suppose DK is much faster to type, I work on MT with ShadowWolf and I'm starting with him on Origins. I mainly do design document conversion/creation and testing, also a little FREDing from time to time.

My name is Travis Moore. I live in Dallas. I have been a longtime fan of Robotech. I dont do as much designing and MODDING but I certainly enjoy playing campaigns.

12-13-2004, 09:29 PM
Nope. As a female member you must be pawed and fawned over the adolesent males who visit all gaming forums. ;)

Then they will fight over you followed by wondering why you left.

I have forseen it :D

Anyway I managed to miss this thread when I first turned up so I suppose I should say Hi myself. :)

I'm Karajorma. I've been playing FS2 for about 4 years now. I'm 29 and I'm currently learning C++ so I can help out the SCP guys. When it comes to modding I'm somewhat of a generalist in that I can do most stuff (slowly and not too brilliantly) except when it comes to FREDding (which if motivated I can do quickly and pretty well).

Cobra
12-15-2004, 12:51 AM
Hey, hey, hey! 'Tis me, Cobra, new face in GWF! I've been playing FS2 for about as long as Karajorma, don't know ANYTHING about C++ ( :biggrin1: ) and since only last year got into MODing. Started with Independence War 2 and worked my way up. I'm an admin at hades-combine (if you wanna visit its here: www.hades-combine.com), so I actually get to give mods. I'm also getting a forum for Pathways (my campaign) so if you wanna sign up, go to my thread there once it's set up.

FusionStorm

Ok, I thought I'll add more information. I love to make models and turrets for Freespace. I spend half my day watching the Weather Channel while I mod. I also like to Write the storyline for my campaign.

Hello !

This is me, Skippy, some of you know me from HLP, where I work on MT with Sapphire, ShadowWolf, Gloriano (and the others too, but I'm too lazy to continue the list :p)

I started playing FS about 4 years ago, and loved it :p later I bought FS2, blablabla...

I also (try to) maintain the FS/FS2 Campaigns List (http://fs2.kissifrot.com/)

Mmh, if you need other informations ask me :p

Ooh, Noob title, cool, that's the first time I get one

Hey.

I'm singh, some of you may already know me from over HLP.

I FRED, do .tbls, FRED some more, can make extremely horrid and totally disgusting textures, pathetically try to unwrap models but get defeated, did i say FRED?, write fiction/sci-fi and can make comics from FS2 screenshots :D

I'm part of Mindgames as well as the Freespace Upgrade Projects, but do work on my own projects including the recently released Desperation series :D

Moonsword

Bonjour, Monsieur Skippy. Comment talez-vous?

Anyway, I'm Moonsword. I've been registered here for a little while but I didn't start posting until recently. I do some FREDing, a bit of creative table hacking, interface compilation (please don't ask), and a lot of RPGing. You guys may have run accross me at HLP, SG, or the WC CIC, or maybe even the SpaceEmpires.net forums.

I work for the 158th Squadron, Twisted Infinities, and Wing Commander Saga as a FREDer and I've done voice acting for Saga and a bit of it for the 158th.

Welcome aboard Primus. While you are here we ask that you obey a few simple rules.

1. do not write on the wall.

2. do not piss on the floor.

3. Do not taunt Fred.

4. Do not place Fred Missions near power lines as Fred sees this as a taunt.

5. Should Fred go on a maniacal rampage through the forums, please call the SCP guys at once, do not attempt to aprhend Fred as Axem probably put it on Beam Free All, and Fred has already changed your IFF to Hostile.

6. Always Duck.

7. No Docking with my lady....MatthewPapa keeps trying.

ok on a serious note, you said that you have some campaign ideas. Might i ask you to take a look in the Mercenaries Forum? Currently we are looking for a few more Mini Campaigns, as in 3-5 missions. Not fredded, just the stories. If you are interested in donating a storyline or two, just PM me, or contact me through one of the other means listed in my profile.

once again.......

Hi there!
I'm a political refugee from the Hard Light Productions Forum...
HLP has been recently conquered by An0n, who has stablished an evil regime comprised of a triunvirate.

I'm an average man.
I'm 17.
I'm an average FREDder/table hacker/story writer/web designer/logo designer/Visual BASIC programmer.
I live in Argentina (errr...in the southeast of South-America...), Buenos Aires...
I have worked in:
- FRED Academy (Mission 1 Campaign 1 Retail. "Big Earl's Cargo Depot")
- Pathways campaign (Lousy voice acting. I FREDded mission 1 and 2...and then left the project)
- Heroes for Hire (Story writing. Web and logo designing...this campaign is dead now...)

I have been playing FS2 since 2001.

Currently working on:
-HomeWorlds: Human Nature
a three-chapter campaign. Very developed plot. Currently finishing its plot...

Siamese

HLP has not been conquered by an0n. It was all a cruel, malicious joke. ;)

Anyways, I'm Siamese. Blitzerland's evil alter-ego.

>I enjoy making fun of cliched, overused phrases. Ph33r.
>I'm usually a nice guy, and unless you fling a cliche at me, we'll get along fine. Besides, I've got a really bad short-term memory.

And as for my obession with cliches, we have a definite list.

TopAce
04-02-2005, 09:50 PM
Hi

I am Attila 'TopAce' Hartai from Budapest, Hungary.
I have been modding FreeSpace for two or three years(even more if you consider FREDing as Modding). I first appeared at HLP, in November, 2002 and I have been a frequent poster ever since, striving for reaching the 7.0 post per day in average, which is basically hard work, not to mention the malicious effect of the April Fool's joke.

I find myself a professional FREDer and a picky tester. My modelling skills are low, certainly because I haven't practised this skill too much.

This is not a place to 'pimp', but I feel it is worth mentioning that I released two campaigns so far, and is still working on the third one.

There is just one Science Fiction universe I love, apart from FreeSpace: Star Wars. Those who know me from HLP certainly knows this by now. I am looking forward to Episode III very much. I am among the very few people who find both Episode I and II good, which is pretty rare, in my experience.
Also, I had some debates about why I call Double-bladed lightsabers only as Sith Lightsabers. These discussions are very memorable for me, even though I do not remember any exact words I, or anyone else wrote.

As for my Real Life, I am a Hungarian student with a twelve year-long English learning experience(I still suck at it). I take the Final Exam this year, in two months' time. I also learn the Italian language, which is a difficult language compared to English.

That's enough for now. Thanks for reading.

The GWBB is a place where dreams of Starship flying Foxs, Human killing Robots, and enough Gatling guns to turn your target into scrap come true. To tell it all would take so long, but to get to the point, here you are safe. The Flamethrowers are locked under your seats, and if you happen to break them lose, you will find there is no fuel in them. There is no hyper inteligent shade of blue and head eating is illegal. Enjoy your stay at Game Warden, and one last tip, Don't Feed the Axem.

Oh well, Guess I'm a little late but I'll introduce myself... I'm a freespace 2 pilot with about 2 years of flying experience, I can'ttake it if I lose (might start whining about lag 'n stuff) you can mostly find me (trying to) playing online. On HLP my name is Wolfdog. (yea, well, that's a really old name, I registered like 2 months after i got dsl, and later I found out i can't change my username so...)

I don't have any talents, (can't fred, can't model, not good at table editing) but I kinda understand how freespace works and i'll try to help-out anyone with multi or singleplayer problems.... that's pretty much it.

FusionStorm

Nonsense, everybody can do something, there is something your good at. You just gotta find it  Have you tryed UV Mapping or just making simple textures?

Evophyrexy
06-26-2005, 08:08 PM
Guess I wasn't really clear... it's not really that I can't do some of those things, it's more like.. well... I simply don't have the creativity, if someone would give me a paper with an exact mission scenario, I could FRED it, most likely, UV mapping i never tried, don't have any idea what it is.. so maybe i'm good at it. texturing same problem as fredding. Coding, don't know, but basicly my brain crashes as soon as i have to do anything with variables, lots of numbers, formulas, etc, etc. (maths in short) and I beleive Coding quite sometimes involves that. Modelling: same problem as fredding, simply no creativity....

Thing i might be able to do... testing, limited hosting, (I have 200MB webspace with a bandwith limit of 5GB) I know my way with webserver software and ftp servers, can do a limited amount of troubleshooting, (with fs2, windows, or hardware problems) and I'm good at spamming... (what?)

Hello, I'm Nuclear. In my 400+ post life on this board, I have probably broken any number of Shadow/Weather's 14 rules, including whacking Cobra, writing on the walls (but only in the Hosted hallways), and the burn marks all across me are evident that I have taunted FRED at more than one point (If you don't believe me, play Mission 8 of Rogue Intentions Episode I [/shamless p1mp]).

Well, that was fun. :nervous:

Welcome to Game Warden, Turn in your flame throwers for Solar Powered Assualt Rifles. In cases of emergency, break the glass (just watch out for shards) and someone will come around. Eventually...

If the crap totally hits the fan, you're on your own unfortuantely. Just send Matt a PM (on here or if you need to HLP) and he'll get things sorted out when time allows.

If you see a Shivan with no friendly IFF transponder, open fire (Carl doesn't go aggro on people Usually :D)

Stay on Raa (or Taristin's good side) and do NOT mention his "questionable avatars". It simply annoys him...

[If anyone can add to this or thinks of a re-write let me know, was kinda spontaneous and was going for a humorious parody of HLP] - will take this part out later once a FINAL version is decided upon...

Geez... registered many moons ago and never got around to looking here.

Apologies! Next ... the condensed-but-still-dull version ;)

36, half-Japanese, half-Italian, first-gen Canadian. Grew up in Vancouver, did uni at McGill in Montreal, worked in Japan for 2 years, then did another degree in London and worked for 5 years, then back to Vancouver, then Naples, London for another year, and now (hopefully permanently??) in Toronto.

Heard about FS2 while Googling for meshes of the new Galactica. I had this idle thought that playing around with virtual Lego-like 3d toys on screen would be fun (as normally, I suck at videogames). With work being what it is, I don't get much time to play the game as much as I'd like. And of course I've compounded matters by preferring to scratch my head on the Linux version as opposed to just playing the fracking thing on XP. I do love this game, though -- it just feels very much ... right.

I'm often over at SCP and the BSG forum, and I lurk -- when it's up? -- a bit over at HLP. I'm hoping to get a HOWTO together for people wanting to experiment with Linux builds of FS2 Open and I'd encourage anyone willing to share their information, suggestions (other forums?) and tips to send me a PM. I'd also like to ask karajorma for his thoughts on this as well as I'd like to collaborate if possible.

Uh, what else ... Still listen to Sasha & Digweed, even though apparently they're no longer the in thing; fiddle around with Debian (8 years now?); read non-fiction infrequently but not as much as I like; still don't own a car; am utterly obsessed by sudoku; and I believe 'Goodbye Sadness' by Astrud Gilberto is simply the best goddamn tune ever.

Oh yeah, I'm from Vancouver, so I like to smoke dope. A lot.

Hi everyone. I'm a 39 year old retired marine pilot who flew Wart Hogs in first Iraq war back in early 92. Even then "Warts" where old vietnam ground support aircraft that can take a beating (much like the old Hercules in FS2). Ugliest most reliable combat aircraft out there for ground support. I miss the smell of jet fuel in the morning and strapping on eight tons of war machine. Starting my second career, so far so good, just puttin on a few pounds as I sit alot now. Still a mean 225 lbs and at 6'2" thats not bad, just a lil pissed about going up a waist size is all.
FS 2 is an awesome space sim, I've had the game for over four years and still play the single campaighns a few times a year. Got me a ST290 pro joystick, and it's copasetic.
Guess I aint as hip as the kiddies out there but i been around puters since the old IBM xt & IBM at. Been a AMD lover since the 90's and have smoke tested more n a few components in my time (ever set a mb on fire? I have lol)

Name's Dajmin, I'm Scottish but live in London.
Originally just passed through these forums while attempting to set up FS2 for online play after being a fan for years, but decided since it doesn't seem to be working that I might as well say hello as well :)

I'm a semi-professional singer/songwriter but I game in my spare time. Big fan of anything online, sci-fi to fantasy. Right now I'm playing CS:S and The Movies. Chances are if you've seen my name in an online game, it was me.

Now all I need is the FS2netD server to come back up (man I hope it's down or my instruction following was really off!) so I can embarrass myself in front of everyone.

Hey, I'm Nuclear, five-year member of the Freespace community, and about one and a half years at Game Warden. Hope you enjoy the community, and, if you haven't already, take a look at Hard Light Productions (http://www.hard-light.net/forums), the core and primary forum for the Freespace community.

That was a quick response! I didn't think that after all this time the FS2 community would still be buzzing as much. But I guess that's because the game is so good even after these years.

I write in a kind of rock / R 'n' B hybrid style, trying to cover the pop angle as well as my own influences.
For copyright reasons I don't have any downloadable original tracks anymore ( :( ) but there are probably still some acoustic cover songs kicking around somewhere :)

And if you're asking in relation to working on mods, I have a couple of example tracks available at my website - http://dajmin.atspace.com - but the site is a 4MB Flash job so might take a few mins to load (no idea why the loading bar didn't work).

Hello All,

I am a newcomer here and to Space sims but hope to catch up.
I have been studying and playing CGames for some years now, and
just now have begun to collect some of the excellent space sims,
including FS1 and FS2......at least I hope to as soon as I assemble
the files to operate FS2 fully....we will see. I am very impressed with
the community here and elsewere (HardLight) and hope to participate
herein once I get some flight time, or should that be Space Time...

I am an artist by profession for some 35 years, (www.christophergerlach.com) and love visuals, and graphics, and
am interested to see if my own art might work in CG formats, we will
see about that, I live in the US in the mts of colorado, and hope
to visit here again and often. Greetings and salutations to all.

Anyone care to fill me in on the history so I can get hooked too???

Freespace history?

You could start by checking the wikis Freespace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freespace) entry and perhaps more importantly the Karajorma's Freespace FAQ (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/intro.html).

Also drop by at Hard Light Productions (http://www.hard-light.net/), which seems to be the current hub of the FS community when online...

Heya folks,

Mauri "Darkblade" Majanoja here from HLP. Mission designer & some sort of voice editor and actor for The Babylon Project, recently been quite inactive.. Thank you Blizzard for making World of Warcraft and giving me an annoying headache. Also in the past I've been part of James Moores' Operation Avatar, which had some fabulous missions written by the author of "Leader of the Shivans". If you want a good read, then here is the link:

http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/lfts/

Also I have done numerous voice acting projects. I've acted Omega 2 on B5: IFH, Agent Black on JA: Team Corellia, Pvt. McMuffin on Solsar Chronicles and a lot of different other characters. So if you need a voice actor and do not mind a small Finnish accent, then by all means, contact me. ;)

Oh frak! I forgot to introduce myself. Time to correct that:

Good day, ladies, gents and whatever you are.

My name is Mika "Zaarin" Saarinen and my ways you'll learn or have learned allready. I'm finnish maniac who steps everybodys toes by on purpose or just accidentally by being stupid. You will suffer my bad jokes and self-irony for sure.

I love good scifi in any form and good games are also close to my hearth and one of my hobbies is guns...technically and pratically. I also enjoy muscle cars and I own 16 year old big barge Ford Scorpio with small two liter engine, at least she's rearwheeldrive and heavy so she's good for ramming if needed.

For not sounding too frightening, I am also man with symphaty, loyalty, caring and all that what Chinese Horoscope Dog says about me. PC-assembler/fixer is my primary job, alltought I'm un-employd at the moment and my real education is automationassembler, if anyone cares.

Reason for my being here is voice acting: the only area of mod/game making where I might have some use and Battlestar Galactica: I'm got hooked right through my ribs from the wery first episode.

Carry on.

Alright, because I’m just THAT bored.

Zaarin. Sorry to hear about your unemployment. My job is basically to be an encyclopedia on Federal Stafford Loans, so if you have any questions, especially in your situation, feel free to ask.

Anyway, I am Zipperblues… a name I ripped from the Smashing Pumpkins song 1979. Though my real name is even more outlandish: Aragorn. I shit you not. My father was a bit of a fanatic, and smoking a lot of pot at the time.

As for my personality… em… not exactly sure how to go about it. I’m a dumb elitist snob, but I make an extreme effort to keep myself in check. According to my Chinese horoscope, I am a “Metal Cock.” Again, not kidding you.

Funny enough, for the most part, I’m really not into science fiction, for pretty much all the reasons that made Ron Moore remake BSG. I love cyber punk, and love William Gibson (neuromancer, johnny mnemonic). I’m pretty much void any form of talent, but I love videogames, and am waiting for Oblivion as well as the recently previewed “bioshock.”

My reason for being here is simply because I heard of the BSG Mod, and I was hoping to find a place to chat about my favorite show in the whole.wide.world. I feel like I can analyze the characters for hours… and in fact did several times. So hi!

Joona
03-02-2006, 12:30 PM
Hi guys and gals,

They use to insult me by calling me Joona Vainio. I haven't used a nick on net forums for ages, as I prefer to take responsibility for everything I say, be it good or bad. This habit comes from experience on a Finnish game magazine's website, where using your own name is mandatory. Tends to keep the worst frakkin' around in control.

I came here 'cos I am a BSG fan and heard about the voice acting. Haven't submitted mine yet, because I got stuck chatting in Starbuck's and overall I am damn lazy, anyway.

No, not really. I am the AD of Metsälehti, a Finnish magazine about forestry. I have no experience and little interest in forestry, though. I just take care that the magazine looks good and gets to print in time. And often that means staying overtime even to the wee hours to keep the deadline. Most of my work is layout design, but every now and then I get to make an illustration or two.

For ten years I've also written reviews for a Finnish computer and video game magazine as a side job for fun and some minor cash. I am taking a vacation from that for now, as any extra energy after my day job goes to going through a divorce that has gotten real messy. Sometimes when I am on the verge of nervous breakdown, you can see me bawling about it in Starbuck's. Sorry 'bout that.

From my earlier marriage I have a 14 year old daughter, who's really sweet and of course the most important thing in my life.

As the Finnish saying goes, I curse and smoke cigarettes. Sometimes my language might get downright dirty, especially when provoked to flirt with pretty girls and women. Or even if not provoked. That should not be mistaken for me being a rude person, however. I care a lot despite my flippancy, and people are important to me. Sometimes too much.

I am also fiercely loyal and very straightforward in what I say. Again, sometimes too much. And I have a hair-trigger temper but I also calm down quickly. Because of that loyalty, nothing gets me as enraged and miserable as betraying that loyalty. That's why am a bit off my rocker right now.

But wounds will heal with time.

See you online,

Joona

HI! I am Zangarath Zenodex from the Descent community! I have experience with FS 1 and 2, and a couple months ago joined HLP, registered here awhile ago, and hadn't taken the time to introduce myself until now.

Now now, don't discriminate. I have unique interests and that includes both games from the remnants of the late Parallax Software. They are the most original and innovative games available regardless of age.

I am from the greater St. Louis area in the United States of America. I am energetic, enthusiastic, and overall fun to be with.

I am not much of a coder or artist, but I can beta test to find bugs and brainstorm ideas for improvements to the game. I am willing to learn how to model, but all I need is a legal copy of starting software and basic assignments to get me going. I am willing and ready to learn.

Hi, I'm Mav. :)
Have a FS-mod in the works since ~ mid 2001 though not progressing alot with it (current stats: 1 completed model, ~3 betas and ~7 alphas :sigh: ) . Had a little go with nearly every part of FS-modding except voice-acting and coding (the latter one I'd also be intereted in, but well... :sigh: ) .
Didn't get to much with any of it (maybe except tbl-ing and icon-making) because of being interested in many other things as well and studying... :(
Ex-Member of the WCSaga team... made a few icons and fixed a few UV-maps as well as made a few rudimentary effects and 1,5 capship-shieldmeshes (yes, they ARE possible, though newer SCP builds don't seem to like them as much :( ) .
I also lurk a bit here and there (read: HLP), but like forums too much (i.e. get sucked in for several hours once I enter) to be there often. :(

So... "friendly" greetings from the Shivan Collective ;) :devel:

Hi guys.

I'm Hammerit. I hope you don't mind me not telling you my real name but it's much better for me this way.

I'm head of the AtW Studios, a developing game developement studio specialized on innovative game design.

To me Freespace is the best line based space shooter ever and playing it is the best source of inspiration one can get. Additionally to Freespace I play other representatives of the genre too such as Freelancer, X² and Darkstar: One, but although Freespace 2 is not the youngest I think it still is the best.

Whenever people say project (single) we all assume it's a BSG reference lol! (Since it's become our flagship I guess, it certainly is the most visually appealing and widely known mod for FS2 on the net in record time).

My other hobby is music: I hear METAL. My favorite bands are Manowar, HammerFall, Lordi and J.B.O. - mybe someone knows a few of this bands :biggrin1:

My third hobby is StarFox: I've played all offcial StarFox games (but I own only the SNES game^^).

Hey guys, glad to see there are so many others who love FS2 as much as I do. My IGN is Phoenix for most games that I play, and I love to play Steam games as well as a lot of other shooters. When I found out there would be no FS3, I was badly let down. Too many things unanswered. I love the Inferno mod though, closest thing to FS3 that Ive found in my opinion, and for those of you who havent tried it, I encourage you to check out Release 1.

Anyway, when Im not at work, I love to hang out with friends or just relax, watch a movie or something. Im hoping that soon I can start playing FS2 Online, and test my skills against something other than rebel Hercs and the Shivans (it never gets old though).
