Do to a technical difficulty I had with my laptop I was unable to do any modeling yesterday and got board. So I started playing with Lightspeed’s and DaBrain’s weapon effects. :biggrin1:
The Shiven turret lasers still need a bit more work on them.

Note: I am using Raptor’s upguned Orion so it’s using the “Triple Terran Huge” It uses the same effect I have for the Terran Huge Turret.

Yeah... I wish they had trails, and fired a wee bit faster, too... but yes... the plasma turrets pwn.
I prefer them to beams. And they can be just as deadly on insane...

Ever heard of the Capital Ship Turret Upgrade? Makes turret lasers much more lethal.

I'll find the link somewhere...

Taristin

it's on Sandwich's site... in his siggy.

I once tried putting 3 beams on one of raptor's turrets, and it didn't work. i even used beam-free-all and waypoints, and nothing. too many?

man, it would have kicked so much ass. :(

Didn't work as in...?

No beam at all? or only one beam?

Triple turrets such as the Orion's main turrets don't allow beams for odd reasons. It's just the way the game works - there's no way around it, far as I know.

From :V: Orion ship entry:

$Subsystem: Turret01a, 1.875, 3.0
$Default PBanks: ( "BGreen" )

Basically you can have a beam cannon on those turrets but it has to be the only weapon on that turret or it will not work.

The Orion's Turret 1 is the exception. It shows the same model, but it doesn't have the same triple-Primary Bank capacity as the other main turrets. That turret was probably intended by :V: to become a forward-hitting turret for the Orion to give it some modern firepower for Freespace 2.

The other turrets are labeled as having three Primary banks: all of them Terran Huge Turrets.

I know, I was pointing out that if you delete those other two primary entries you can then make a beam cannon work on those turrets.

Anyway, back on topic. A Lilith has a dual with a Fenris.

Are those weapon effects SCP? They look pretty cool.

Jonathan_S47
03-22-2005, 12:59 AM
Yeah, some of them are from Lightspeed’s upgraded weapon effects. Others are from DaBrain’s mod starter kit.

Cobra

which won?

MatthewPapa

Of course the lilith.... or i would think...the fenris is too lightly armored to win in an engagement against anything other than a fighter or a cain.

Nuclear
03-22-2005, 02:53 AM
No... the fighter would own it so easily :p A Fenris might last in a battle against a cargo container. Even then, it would have to take evasive action and put extra power into the weapons and the life support in the very event that the container somehow moves and tears the side open with a light tap.

I'm not saying this because I don't like the Fenris, not at all. :p

Hey, don’t dis the Fenris! The Lilith had to call in reinforcements to deal with it.

Ok, all 3 ships are set to invulnerable. :p I did that because the Fenris would aim strait for the weapon subsystem on the ships. They couldn’t hit an Orion when the weapons system is out.

The Rakshasa is using the Shivan Megafunk Turret.

Edit: Update. Here ya guys go. It includes table entries for both FS2 normal tables as well as Sandwich’s upgraded turret entries.

EDIT: old file removed. Let me know if you want something from it.

I wasn’t really satisfied with the Shiven Megafunk turret but I couldn’t work out anything that looked better. Then when I was taking a brake from homework this weekend I found out about Lightspeed’s weapon FX dump on his site.

Which of these do you think looks better?

Mmmmm Vasuden Turret.

Dogonit, those lasers look good.

I'm happy to see that at least some of Lis' work is being put to good use. :)

DaBrain

Jonathan, try to use a better glow. The glow looks too big for the new effects. :)

Edit: Perhaps more like this?

Jonathan_S47
05-07-2005, 03:55 AM
Yeah, I quickly tossed those together to see how it looked. Your glow is closer to the right size but it’s little too short.

DaBrain
05-07-2005, 10:39 AM
Oh, looks a lot better already. I'll work on a better glow later.

I'm off to study now. ;)

DaBrain
05-07-2005, 01:48 PM
Ok here it is.

I'm not quite happy with it. I'll redo it later.

I'm sure this will be included in the next MV effect or advanced effects pack. :) Good work.

Thanks, although I really didn’t do much of anything. :nervous:

That second glow worked great. I will put a shot of it up when I am able to get a good screen capture.

Never underestimate table editing and effect compsing. I'm very bad at the table part for instance.

Hey and even if it's not the hardest job, the result looks good.
Lt. Cannonfodder created a very simple skybox(sphere) with some very basic stars.
Nothing much special about it one may think, but there is: He had the idea to do it.

I think good ideas are very important.

True, I always found it ironic that in one of the missions we hear a Vasuden gripe about Terran weapons yet, save for their beam cannons, what do the Vasudens use? Terran weapons!

Anyway, here is shot of the glow on the Vasuden Turret. It also looks great on the Vasuden Huge Turret. :biggrin1:

DaBrain

Looks nice.

Time for an release, isn't it?

Jonathan_S47
05-10-2005, 10:18 PM
Almost, right now they have the exact same values as the Terran Turret. I plan tweaking them a bit to better fit in with the Vasudens. And I might go back and redo the Terran Huge Turret. :nervous:

Here is the updated Terran Huge Turret. All I got left to do is some minor tweaking with the table entries. :biggrin1:

dude, you are SO awesome.

Finished cleaning up the tables and balancing out the Vasuden turrets with their Terran counterparts. The Vasuden Turrets don’t do as much damage as the Terran ones but they fire a bit quicker and have a slightly longer range to them.

DaBrain

Sweet!

I'll try it right away. ;)

Heyha, these effects are awesome.

As I am sure you have all noticed the particle effect on the Shiven turret laser is horribly pixilated. After playing with the table entries for a bit a shrunk them down so it isn’t as bad. Here are the table entries. I want you guys to try them out and tell me what you think. Should I go with these, drop the particles all together, or start looking for a different effect.

I like the shivan laser effect, havent looked at the new non-pixelated one yet

Apparently they must be ok, nobody said anything. (I really need to update that .rar file.)
