ok put your flamethrowers away, that was just something that was suggested in a DIY book i bought; "Shameless Pimping for Dummies".

quote
mentioning the words Freespace Three, Freespace 3 or fs3 in any freespace related forum (whilst likely to get you stabbed at a later date), will bring an onslaught of flamethrower wielding people to your topic.
end quote

ok sorry about that, but ive been dying to try that for ages...

anyway i would like to:
1) thank Game Warden for giving me free hosting AND putting up with my hopeless lack of FTP knowledge.

2) shamelessly pimp my new freespace game, desktop freespace.
desktop freespace is a top down, asteroids style freespace game, in which you try to (a) beat my brothers score of 1617 kills and (b) get new weapons, ships etc. the game is currently in its early, version 1 release stage, with release V1.50 being the newest release.

otw are two new releases for the game;
V1.75 (scoring system, animated intro, less bugs, installer program fixes)
and VMOO (an online multiplayer version of the game)

you can get it at www.game-warden.com/desktopfs

Is it really a good idea to draw a crowd of hostile, mildly annoyed people to your thread though?

That warning was published in a retail work? Excellent, the word is getting out at least...

Ah, The Games Factory...Not bad, not bad at all. But It could use some enhancements like more effects and stuff. I'll give you a hand if you want.

i think it sucks that we have gotten so bad about it that they are now publishing warnings against mentioning fs3 in any of our forums. The idea is ato attract new people to our forums, not to be so elitist that we drive new people away for asking about fs3.

I don't see it as being elitist really though. Most questions about FS3 simply end in a pointer to the Wiki or my FAQ where they can find an answer to the question.

That said people who come out with the "let's get together and write FS3" as if no one in the community could have ever thought of it do get on my nerves.

but more often than not i have seen people flamed over asking about fs3. Flamed as if we are above answering questions about a game that won't exist. The ones who come in and inquire about us writing FS3, hell i had even thought about it at one time, but i decided that the people at HLP weren't the ones to do it, so i didn't bring it up.

IMO I don't think that there needs to be a FS 3, just look at all the different projects at HLP that try to cover what could/couldn't happen after FS 2, to me it looks like big V just wanted to let people work out the rest for them selves.

Well V have said that they'd love to do a third one. I agree that we don't need one though.

Personally I hate seeing people getting flamed for asking about FS3 too.

I personally would like to see an FS3, for the story - provided it was done by the original writers.

of course by now, we're equally qualified

Duelron1001

but what would the story be about? I can't see anymore good ideas for a story other then what people have all ready done, but then there is all ways the idea for what we have for FSNA's post-capella period campaign.

Er... well, for starters there are infinite directions the story could go from the end of FS2, so there's certainly no problem there. But no-one is better equipped to continue the story than the original authors, since they would have a much better idea where they were going and what the Shivans were doing and so on. And to be frank, I don't think any of the FS3-style campaigns so far have even come close to the quality of the originals, mine included, though I'm withholding my judgement for MT of course since it isn't released yet.

but its gotta have a real LotR type epic feel to it, where everything is so big, you couldnt possibly change it all, yet the actions of alpha 1 save the universe somehow

i dunno, just throwin stuff around, i'd have to write something

the terran fleet and the huge shivan fleet have to be the same size, so there can be a huge epic battle

I wish I had the skill to make the campaign with my storyline. It is very evil, muhahahaha! But, more than likely it will forever stay in my head. :(

What say something like where alpha 1 has to take out derick smart? after reading about that whole afair i still can't stop laughing at the stupity of some people, I mean who does he think he is? One of my favored quotes was:

"Smart beat the shit out of a Coke Machine for some reason or another. He probably thought it questioned his Ph.D."

I mean who gives that sort of guy a Ph.D?
