Assault Gold Level - What's your strategy?

Last night, I completed Assault on Gold level, but the last mission took me ages. I just kept dying and actually got game over for the first time. But eventually, I beat it. The reason - I kept barrel rolling in circles. I could avoid enemy attacks easier that way, but I was also blind to them because the green is so shiny. I took that chance though.
When it came to the final battle with the Aparoid Queen, I just kept shooting the little things that look like prawns until I got hyper lazers and full energy. Then I went in for the kill and repeated the process.

So, I was wondering, how did you survive? What was your strategy?

Also, I solved that problem with the Bronze medals, Scourge of Ages ;)

Frankly, it's been quite a while since I played the game, and I think I only got gold on one or two missions.

Strategy wise, I just tried shooting the Aparoid a lot until it died. :)

Have you ever noticed that those purple shiny barriers randomly cover the whole tunnel sometimes? When Fox says ' These attacks are intense. It shows how far we've come.', the purple things kept covering all of the tunnel...
