What's Freespace 2?.
(I'm using this clasification: http:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/computer_and_video_game_genres )
A First-Person Shooter?
or a Space Combat Flight Simulator?

It's pace is fast and it requires quick reflexes, and it gives a shit about real phisycs.
On the other hand, we are piloting a ship in space.

An obvious choice for me....

Uh...a FPS? Are you crazy? A FPS? How on earth could Fs2 be a FPS?!

Fs2 isn't a flight simulator or a FPS. Fs2 is, quite simply, a Space-Action Sim.

Its a space combat sim, no doubt about it.

i think it fits better as a FPS mainly because simulators are supposed to realisticaly simulate real-life activities. FS2 doesn't do that. Neither the 'real-life activity' thing (we are piloting combar spacecrafts...get the idea...) or the 'reallistically simulate' (Freespace 2 gives a shit about Physics [you can hear the sound, etc]...so...there is no realism)

I can't believe some of you even have to think about this...

Space-Action Sim???

i can't find that genre here:
http:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/computer_and_video_game_genres

the wiki is inherantly flawed, in that it's maintained by the retards on the internet.

Hell, I'll add the genre now if I want :p

name other games that would fall into the Space-Action Sim genre...

I never said it was a space action sim. I said space combat sim.

Don't be difficult, dude. It's pretty much the same thing, if you think about it.

Action- Fighting, blowing things up

Combat- Fighting, blowing things up

Other Space Combat/Action/whatever Sims.

Freelancer- Either reviled or revered by most, has a free-roaming RPG aspect to it.

Tie Fighter- A good ol' classic Space Simulation. Die, for the Empire!

X-Wing: Alliance - Tons of ships, the definitive StarWars sim.

FreeSpace is a transition between an FPS and a Space Simulator.

That it is. I've never thought of Fs2 as a FPS, though. I usually consider a FPS as a game in which you run around on the ground with a gun.

Freespace is a space combat game first and simulation second.

Of course, being a simulation doesn't mean your simulating something that actually exists; it can be an abstract model (which, in terms of physics, FS defo is).
