How do I use IRC chatrooms?

first, get mIRC or some other irc client
secondly, install said software onto your personal computer
thirdly, set a nick and a server to connect to in the client
fourthly, "connect"
fifthly, input "/join #<channel name>" into the little text input field, where <channel name> is the name of the channel.

#nodewar is on irc.sorcery.net and is where I and some other fs community people idle. I know there are other places too, like the SW people.

I've downloaded mIRC, but how do I select irc.sorcery.net?

there should be a dialogue window coming up when you start it up, called "mirc options". go select "servers" under "connect" at the list to the right.

when you get there, either choose "SorceryNet" under "IRC Network" (methinks, I've tweaked this list quite a lot) or click the "Add" button, and "Sorcery" or whatever you want under description, irc.sorcery.net under irc server, and 6667,7000,9000 under ports. if you want to, you can type "SorceryNet" or whatever in the group textbox.

after that, just select it and press "connect to server"
