You say that the controls will be better (advantage) on the mouse and keyboard... I was wondering if it's controlled with 8, 4, 6, and 2. Because I played Beyond the Red Lines...and I didn't like that control scheme very much...

You can alter the control scheme you know. :)

You can also buy (or ask someone to buy. ;p) a joystick. Everything is SO much smoother and better with a joystick.

The basic control scheme of BtRL and SoL is the same.

However, there will be no gliding like in BtRL.
We're trying to simplify the controls even more, so a lot of keys you needed for missions in FS2 and BtRL, won't be used in SoL.

If possible, we'd also like to improve the mouse control. Nuke made a LUA script that is headed into the right direction.

Still, you're best off with a joystick and maybe a gamepad.

Great to hear! I will probably be using my Xbox 360 gamepad to play this.

I have a joystick and a gamepad as well, but my gamepad only has a D-Pad, 4 Buttons, and 4 Shoulder Buttons. -.-

I was thinking mouse control, like you said. That would make everything rule.

So, isn't targetting still going to be neccesary, as well as weapon changing? the way fs2 uses "leading", unless you have instant velocity like a beam.

Targeting is still probably nescessary in order to find something to shoot at. Unless it's going to be like in Assault where there are just so many easy-to-kill enemies that it doesn't matter which one you shoot.
And unless it's going to differ from other StarFox games a lot, there shouldn't be a whole lot of weapon switching.

I am hoping to get a joystick for this, so is there a way to make it be able to steer and fire, but everything else with the keyboard?

That is generally the primary purpose of the joystick in these games, and like Karajorma said, you can adjust the controls.
That means that if you felt like, the joystick could control yaw while the keyboard controlled pitch. That's a bad idea, but you could do it if you wanted :p
