Here's the deal. We've restored the forums - and notice I said forums. So, if you were able to see HLP right now, it'd look normal at first glance.

However, if you were to venture into any of the restored forum sections, you'd see that they're missing all their posts. You see, forum sections are stored seperately from posts in the database. And the short of it is that Styxx was able to restore the forums, but didn't have time to complete the restoration of the posts themselves.

So, I'm left with a decision. I can do one of 3 things:

Reopen the forums, and disappear for the weekend while you all scream and bitch about how we lost all the posts on the internals.
Attempt to hide the forums that were restored, so you can't see that they're still incomplete. Theoretically. What with vB's wonderful record at private forums staying private, however, I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of you had direct links to the internal forums that would completely bypass vB's "hiding" of them.
Leave the boards closed until Styxx can get back to the posts backup, on Monday.
Now, the other problem with options 1 and 2 are that I don't know if anybody posting in the forums, with the state they're in now, will knock the restore process out of sync or not. Therefore, in the interests of saftey, the HLP forums will remain closed until the restoration process is completed on Monday. Sorry, I know it sucks, but such is life. I don't like it either.

In the meantime, however, I encourage you all to go haunt any or all of the following "rising stars" of the Freespace community - most HLP regulars also infes-err, visit one or more of these, so you should find yourself surrounded by friends just like you are at good ol' HLP. ;)

SectorGame (http://www.sectorgame.com/) - forums (http://sectorgame.com/forum)
Game Warden (http://../) - forums (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/)
GTD Bastion (http://woodentoyandgift.com/forums/index.php) (which, err, also seems to be down as I type this...)
And now, an announcement from Goober:

We, the HLP admins, apologize on behalf of Gamespy for the extended forum outage. To ensure that these incidents do not recur in the future, we plan to ... <crackle>... Gamespy ...<snap>... soon ...<pop>... 3.0 is....<hisssssss>..........

Wow...

The problem with having muliple smaller forums than HLP is that the activity gets spread around more, so if you ask a question less people are around to answer it.

they probably mean vB3. Basically, the forums won't get messed up as much and as easily. Hopefully...

This place will very soon look like what I would think an HLP 3.0 would look like....I have portal software that I am currently experimenting with right now that could turn out to be really cool. Expect big things in the future here....

Total W00tage!! :biggrin1: :biggrin1:

On the subject of HLP, someone should write something on it and put it in the Wiki, "When Good Jokes,Go BAD!"

The timewarps are not their fault. AFIAK Gamespy is to blame...

Anyway, this is not as bad as one might think. I for my part already acepted the possibility that the problem was even more serious.

I'm glad to hear it can be fixed. ;)

Waiting until moday aint that hard. I like Game Warden even better, but *pssst* ;)

Isnt it kinda weird how sectorgame just craps out for an hour at seemingly random intervals? If I were hunter I would be pretty pissed off at my host.

I already mentioned this post in the other thread, but I suppose it would receive additional attention here. ;)

GTD Bastion's going under an upgrade as well. That's what I remember Raa mentioning shortly before it went down.

I can see Game-Warden taking over from HLP soon.

Not necessarily. HLP will be back up soon enough, and Game Warden is only one of the many emerging Freespace communities. Sector Game (the temporary home of SCP) is getting big, though they are suffering instability issues.

Once GTD is upgraded, we might be hosting projects as well.

I guess I should point out in this thread, too, that GTD is back up and running. There will probably be a few appearence tweaks in the coming days, but aside from that, it's there to stay.

You are referring to your forum hosted for free by Invision, yes? So you don't have any webspace to offer, no? :biggrin1:
