There hasnt been any 'rampant' thread locking that I recall. I can count like 6 in total, and I think in this forum we have had like only had like 2 or 3 (and they were because of southernpride!) So lets not make a big deal out of something as trivial as this. I trust G-W's Moderators and Admins to use proper judgement (which they did in this case) to regulate these forums. If anyone has a problem with someones judgement about a certain issue they should PM someone (any of the admins or MoDs) about it and it will be reviewed.

I agree, we (admins) need to become more mature, this thread was rather pointless. We all know that HLP has problems, that's why we are here, there is no more needed to be said. If we want to be better then other forums (I am not just talking about HLP here so can we get over that place) we need to rise the standard. A set of rules that we apply to all threads needs to be inforced no matter who started it. With a high standard of forum requirements we can choose in that sence who will come to these forums.

HLP is actually my favorite Freespace community. The threads the admins lock deserve to be locked. Also, tis the only place that actually releases anything: Inferno R1, three Bablyon releases, four Lightning Marshal releases, etc. Plus, the first chapter of MT has completed testing.

I loath and despise Penguinbomb due to the rampant spam and lack of anything resembling intelligent thought. And an0n reminds me of my annoying, sociopathic 12-year old little brother.

GameWarden seems to be well run, but I still prefer HLP. Probably just because I know a lot of people there. GW is still my second-favorite site, and I'm looking forward to GTI Rebellion and Mercenaries.

Leave HLP alone or face the vicious and non-existant wrath of Tomdonia. :p

There's no rules, no real point or direction, no site, no updates and very little instances of 'actually doing stuff' on my part. It's just the forum, left to degenerate at whatever pace the members choose.

All I did to get it was: Waited for the hosting deal with WS to collapse, then hijacked the userbase. It was literally a case of me showing up on IRC and saying I'd just bought a years worth of hosting and a copy of vBulletin.

Since then I've never spent more than 20 minutes doing anything to the entire place.

Basically, there is no generic problem at HLP. There are some situatuins wbere people are collectively guilty with a very few exceptions. I could mention this most recent 'this looks like a penis' scandle or the infamous April Fools joke.
As for too many threads being locked, I think there are fewer threads closed today than they were a year ago. Once was a time when I stumbled into the Art forum and THREE threads on one page were locked. Only Pathway's forum could beat that... nothing else.
Sometimes(more accurately: more often than once) I don't agree with closing particular threads. There is always hope that the flaming sides stop what they were doing and let the thread go on-topic.
Speaking of going off-topic, it rather depends on the administraion than on the community. How many other forums do you visit? Do they go off-topic real fast such as HLP? There you go: Yes. It's because we often feel we should respond to a post which is off-topic, which leads to more 'off-topicness'. This is especially typical for forums with a small number of visitors and posters. I saw the offical Star Wars forum on www.starwars.com and there were only a few off-topic posts. I also visited an Italian forum on www.multiplayer.it and from what I understood on that forum, the posts were always on-topic.

This does not blame anyone. Believe it or not, we are a relatively small community, at least compared to let's say the Quake or the Unreal communities. I have never visited a Quake forums(and I still call myself a Quaker :p), but I bet there is less off-topic discussion going on there unless the administration is so poor.
