well my nickname came from the hours of CS that I used to play. The problem was that i would end up on 1 health and win the round, so my current nickname came about as a result. Although it's my past nickname that has a more intresting backstory to it.

Ok. ;)
I played StarCraft in a clan many years ago. A good friend of mine was also in this clan. Well, I can't remember why, but we decided to use the names "Pinky and Brain" ;). There was no connection between us and the series (apart from the 'take over the world stuff' ;) ).
But there's more to it. The 'Da' is not the 'in da house' 'Da', but the russian word for 'yes'. Another friend of mine is from russia. We alway's had a lot fun with him. He was 'the russian'. ;) We heard im phone one time. He said 'da' very often. Since then he was the 'da russian'. Hehe. (We used to pick on each other, using this stupid kind of things...)
It was just cool, so I used it for my name.
Man, I really have to met those guys again. :)

The Trivial Psychic
04-29-2005, 05:02 PM
Well, mine traces back to Saturday Night Live. Christopher Walken was on once and in a skit, made fun of a character he'd played in a movie some time before. His character in the movie was a psychic who could sense important (and usually trajic) events in people's futures when he shook their hand. In the SNL skit, his character "the Trivial Psychic" would do the same (the handshake part), but instead see insignificant events in people's near future, though he always reacted like it was something major. Things like, "you're gonna forget you coffee on top of your cab" or "you're gonna eat ice cream too fast and get an ice cream headache". That's where the nickname came from. As to how I got it, that's for the next paragraph.
I used to watch alot of the Simpsons. I watched it enough so that I'd pretty much seen every episode and could remember every line and sequence and identify what episode it came from... not by number or season though. I can still do this, though not with the episodes from the last few years. Anyway, occasionally I'd be walking down the street or in class or pretty much doing anything, and I'd remember a particular sequence from an episode, I'd laugh at it, run it though my mind a few times, and then move on and temporarily forget that I'd thought about it. Within a 48h period, I'd be watching a Simpsons rerun and that episode would air. It always happens when I least expect it. If I try to make it happen, (as in try to remember that I've thought about that sequence and look to see if its going to be on), it doesn't. Once in fact, I was thinking about an episode while in the shower. As I was drying off, I remembered that a Simpsons episode was just starting and thought to myself sarcastically, "watch, it'll be on". When I got back to my room, I turned on the TV and WHAM, it was on... that episode in fact.
It still happens on occasion but not as often. The fact that I watch the Simpsons much less frequently could be a factor. It used to happen also with songs on the radio, movies on TV, etc. Anyway, some years ago, I was mentioning this to my older brother and he said that it was the most useless psychic ability ever, so he assigned me the nickname of the SNL character. I took it on as my internet handle as soon as I started going online, and I've used it ever since.

NH, Daala didn't have an SSD. just a regular SD that was dubbed Gorgon. She used to have 4, but 2 of them were vaporized by a supernova, the 3rd triedto jump out but didn't get out in time, and Daala's was damaged, then damaged to the point of disrepair (for the soldiers, anyway) at Maw Installation, crept back to Imperial Space and there you go.

Well Star Dragon is the American name for Getter Robo G (1976) released in america in 1977 as Star Vengers. The first Getter (1974) was fugly, and thankfully not released .;) I fell in love with the mecha (and that show was the originator of "transforming robots").. The Legendary Go Nagai was the artist (who incidently also pioneered the first robots to be human operated - Mazinger Z 1971) as well as the first anime where the heroes talked like normal people, ie, the occasional swear...

Long long ago (I was like 12?), I played Super Mario RPG like mad. It was so fun, I decided I'd make Super Mario RPG 2. So I set out and began to draw the characters and the bosses and so on. Yeah, that got boring fast.
So about a year later, my friend introduces me to the MSN Gaming Zone, but I needed a username. I was going to choose Leever, from those annoying Green enemies in Zelda: OOT, but that was taken. So, I choose a name from my SMRPG2, a boss known as Axem Power (because he's so powerful duh). No space allowed? Fine delete the space. AxemPower. So lots of time passes and I realize that most people just called me Axem anyway, so I just dropped the Power part and, voila, Axem.

Ransom comes from a great game called Hostile Waters, there was some fellow in that who said 'My name... is Ransom' and he was just too cool for school, naturally being too school for cool myself I stole the name and claimed it as my own
Arceihn was just some thing I slapped on the end of it while creating a new pilot for Escape Velocity Nova because it seemed like a good idea to have a last name, and a terribly mispelled version of 'arcane' seemed like a smashing (idea).
On a totally unrelated note I had a kinda similar experience to Trivial Psychic just recently. A couple years ago I saw a single episode of Everybody Loves Raymond (I forget why) - one where that woman starts cooking stuff and one of the things she cooks is some thing with a weird name that the old dude likes but his wife doesn't cook it for him anymore because he likes babies a bit too much with his dinner (or something to that effect). Anyway that was the first and only episode I ever saw of it. Just a month or so ago I was bored so flicked on the TV and here it is, the exact same episode I saw about two years ago.

Originally, I only chose the nickname of 'Ace', because I loved space simulations and I considered myself a good pilot. The two best simulations I have ever played are X-wing vs. TIE Fighter and FreeSpace.
When I discovered HLP, I decided to register, but the nick 'Ace' was already used. (Anyone knows this guy? :D). I had to choose an other name, so I simply added the 'Top' prefix to it. And to have something special(at least to my level of creativity), I omitted the space between Top and Ace, and used capital letters instead of this space.
So the nick TopAce was born.
And if you still ask me why I call myself TopAce, then here is another version:
I read it in a magazine it was impossible in X-wing vs. TIE Fighter to reach the 'Top Ace 4th Order' rank in single player mode. After months of being 'Ace 1st Level', I eventually got promoted to 'Top Ace 4th Order' by playing dogfights on Hard difficulty. After I was promoted, I was proud of myself to have achieved what the others said was impossible.
----
Alternatively, I use the 'Combattivo' nickname, which means 'Warrior' in Italian. I played one or two JKII multigames and a few more Quake 3 online games with this nick, but if I stumble in a new forum, I will surely register as 'TopAce'. Not only in FS-related forums so the others could recognise me, but generally everywhere.

Nix kinda means Nothing in German, which is/was my favorite record label (till it went defunct and all the crap with John Malm went down...) but everywhere I went to sign in for a handle of sorts, nix was taken. I tacked on 1999 cause it was fitting at the time back in 1996.... Another reason why I chose it was because i thought it was a cool name of a character in a movie with Scott Bakula in it. I cant remember what it was but it was a Clive Anderson book I think... (woah this takes me back)
Since then I've used other handles but if i'm online and gaming, I'll go by NIX most of the time. Other times i've been known to use shadenfreude and mesosparkle. (the simpsons.....)

In hindi, yes. All sikhs have the second name as Singh, with family name being the third name. Hence my name is technically unique enough to identify me from others on the board, yet if I so choose, not unique enough for a complete identification.
I go by a second nickname these days, if you have seen it: Alternate22.
Alternative meaning/form for the 22nd Alternate.
What is an alternate? It can be a different choice; a different solution to the current scenario...a different way of going about things...a different way to beat the current system. An alternative option for the word 'alternative'. A different creation...
in other words.....Y.N.K.
(cookie for those who figure out what that means)

...I met the real Iceman, the guy they stole the callsign from for the TopGun movie (he was on-base during the filming and they liked his callsign).
But I got my name, well...I just made it up. Originally I was Fighter_Captain on the Volition forums, but I made a stupid post and got bashed for it, so I changed my name to this...except I misspelled it. So for that entire time and my first year on HLP I was "Unkown_Target" until an admin kindly changed it for me, and here I am :D

Ephili: First day on FS2 Mulit back in PXO days i was like "whats a cool name?" and "Ephili" poped in my head.
Charismatic: Im Christian and my 'denomination' (reglious group with similar beleifs, about specific things) is called the 'charismatic' denom.
Spike: I look great with spikey hair, and i occasionally get arsed to do it and yeah. Was havin a hard time with my GF so i went flying under a diff name, a cooler name to make me feel better:P
My best friends nick name is "Tw". His ID was "Twistedlance.." ect. And i tried to abbreviate it when very tired, like at 4 in the morning. Came out to bt Tw instead of like TL or something like that. Either i was very off or it sounded cooler.

I thought of my nick when trying to find something easier to remember and pronounce than my name proper, as well as serve as my online ID. Originally I got a Hotmail address about a year after the service started and had to think of a username. At the time I had heard about creating passwords where the user or admin slaps two unrelated terms together with an ASCII character, like "carrot%paper"; you know, sort of like what AOL does (did?).
So for this Hotmail address I called myself "Perfectly Vegetable" -- no cracks about how accurate that is! :) -- and to this day my GF tells me I still get business mail addressed to "Mr Perfectly Vegetable".
I also had an additional problem in that I used to have a lot of different aliases on the net; it wasn't consistent. So a lot of the time I'd remember an old site I'd like to access and get fucked up for the stupidest of reasons, that I couldn't remember the damn username. How dumb is that?
Anyway, upon coming back to Canada I thought I had to standardise. I soon fell upon North Twilight as a simple pair of terms I could use, and that was that... the terms themselves don't really mean anything. Unlike PVeggie, northtwilight is anodyne or neutral enough that no one thinks I'm being frivolous or too obscure, which is relevant as I use it pretty much uniformly across the net, as well for business communications and the like when I can't use work addresses for whatever reason. In fact, my boss, who's an old friend of mine from uni, just asked me about the nick just last week for similar reasons.
I think north was just a silly reference to being Canadian. Sorry if this is a little long!

My nick's a spinoff of my marine call sign. Back when I flew Wart Hogs I was known as "Fragger", I was a lil reckless back then and completed every mission assigned, mainly blowing up stuff like sam radar sites and suppoting marine forces on the ground. My record is 19 hours continuously flying sorties, I wish I could tell you that's the record but it aint even close. Never ditched tho, just the same I went thru 3 aircraft that day. Ole Uncle Sam has deep pockets bet I cost him millions repairing my "Warts". LOL
