All questions go here, and myself or someone on the staff will do our best to answer. :)
FreeSpace Assault Force is a FPS (First Person Shooter) based on the FreeSpace universe. Current plans will have it taking place during the first Great War. You play the part of a GTA marine, who has his hands full fighting off rebel Terrans, Vasudans and possibly later on, some Shivans.
The game will be used on the Half Life 2 engine, which is possibly the best free FPS engine out there right now.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask away!
oh yeah, you are gonna do it! hehehe well I'll be looking ^^
You'll have fights inside ships right? or will it feature ship-to-ship action like in FS2 engine also?

Will this one actually get released?

hopefully...
I would venture to say that FPS mods for engines like HL are somewhat easier to do than Freespace MODs because there are more tools available for them, but who knows.

Do you guys have any assets made yet? Character models, weapons, hallways etc?I think there are some models straight from HL2 that we can use. I know that there are hundreds (literally) of textures that can be used for buildings, hallways and such. And no, I have not started yet. If anyone is interested in helping, just send me a PM or feel free to ask. We need just about every position possible right now. :)
Oh, by the way, don't forget about NTV... I won't. I just need a temporary break from FREDing for the moment. Gives me a chance to try new things. :)
Am I part of the project staff? :D

Question: Why Half Life 2?
Because it has an amazing engine and making the levels aren't to difficult...:nervous: Why? You think that there is a better one out there that doesn't cost a lot?

For just HL2, it's $20.00 U.S. on Steam. I was able to pick my copy up (HL2 with Episodes 1 and 2) for $20.00 at EBgames. All you need though is HL2.

Why? You think that there is a better one out there that doesn't cost a lot?Well, not necessarily better (it could be, I suppose), but there are a bunch of free FPS engines out there now.
such as? I think HL engine is quite good, as a mather of fact... check the Moddb webpage, you'll find a mod that includes space fighting (ships) and it uses HL2 engine, and as far as screenshots go the mod looks quite good and fluid.
Maybe you can contact them and ask for some pointers ^^

You mean Eternal-Silence (http://eternal-silence.net/)? I found that project a while back via Google Images lol I think they are on MODDB so probably same project.

Please, no!

why no?
Doom 3 isn't as flexible modding engine as HL2 is and it isn't as populas as HL2 as well.

The HL2 engine is a very powerful FPS engine and is relatively easy to use. And as Shiv said, it has a very large community behind it. As for joining the team, please PM me about the details and how you want to help.

Well my point was that Half Life 2 isn't free, while the following engines are:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_First-Person_Shooters#Free_first-person_shooter_game_engines
The most important part of this, though, is to bring the mod to life. If the HL2 engine succeeds in that, it'd be alright.

Before I wanted to start this mod, I looked through all the free first person and third person engines that I could find. In the end, I decided that you get what you pay for. The only other free engine that looked any good was probably the cube engine, but the graphics were crappy and it was a tough level designer to learn. I want this mod to look good and be of the best quality. Plus HL2 only costs $10-$20 on steam. :)

6€ is not at all too much for such a nice thing. i think everyone should try it. is it possible to purchase from one of the forum members at a more lower price?

Forum members, as in one of us? I don't think you can. Just a week ago Steam was having a massicve HL2 sale (instead of $20 U.S. it was $5) Don't know if the sale is still in effect though...
