Quick Question About GoG.com

Is GoG the only legal way to obtain FreeSpace 2 at the moment? Are there any other sites selling the game legally? I'm writing a review and I would like to support GoG, but the other staff members I work with are apparently arguing the possibility of promoting a site which does not support our own...ergo my question.

Yep, GoG is the only site with the license to sell FS2.
There are (allegedly) sites out there that do distribute it as well, but none of those have an appropriate licensing agreement with Interplay.

As for "not supporting our site", that has more to do with HLP/GW not (yet) being members of GoG's partnership program; Ask Goober about that.
Also, GoG has mentioned several user-made mods in their FS2 editorial, as well as links to the community, so I'd say they are as supportive as they can be without them actually having some sort of agreement with the community sites.

There's eBay selling hard copies, but these are kinda rare, and expensive. So yeah, what the E said.

There is always second hand shops (recently found one myself for under $3,) But as for authorized re-sellers, GoG is the only real place that I know of.

Actually I'm pretty sure Gametap also have a license.

But they don't sell a moddable copy of the game so it's not much use to us to promote them over GOG.

How would you make a game like FS unmoddable?

From what I understand they keep the game data in their own container rather than using VP files. You can download and play the original game with their specially altered exes but FS2_Open has no idea how to read from it.
