Update: We're reworking the voice acting system. Please post in the new thread!

I'm pretty sure we won't feature real speech, but I'd like to know if there are people interested in voice acting.

Maybe I change my oppinion about this topic then. If a few people voluteer, I'll work out a few sample lines.

Just tell me which role you want get. :)

BTW I know it's unlikely somebody will reply...

Haha, This is going to be interesting, who's gonna do slippy? *Grabs Mallet out*

Sounds like an interesting idea anyway, I dont know what qualities my voice has but I dont think it matches that of any of the characters. Could be a voice for a supportive role if anything.

DaBrain

Well, there is a lot you can edit with the right software. I don't think there is anybody who sounds like Slippy without a bit of editing. :)

It's hard to get voice actors. Some other mods have it easier. TBP and Wing Commander: Saga...

So, it's just a try. ;)

"I don't think there is anybody who sounds like Slippy without a bit of editing."

Hows about me? I swear I didn't touch this with my sound software. Though my throat hurt after recording about 10 of these.

http://www.classicalhorn.com/hosted/slippy009.mp3

Though that was a while ago. I'm not sure if I can still do it.

This is what I normally sound like (was made for a thread on another forum):

I guess I could do it if needed. I can do other voices too if need be.

DaBrain
06-06-2005, 08:29 PM
I still think we won't need voice acting, but just theoretically, which roles could you speak?

As, soon as we got half of the needed voice actors, I consider there is enough interest in this to pull it off.

*wipes tear away

That's hilarious. :p

BTW, I used to wrap huge headphones over my head for mic's too. That way I could still type. But I looked like an idiot. ;)

There was the plan to add a new character. Maybe that could be you're role.

How about a small voice sample? :drevil:

We won't use sounds or voices from Nintendo games, no copying, only original stuff.

DaBrain

Like I wrote at HLP, very impressive.

If you want to do it and we really decide to do it (an I'm more and more sure we will) you're in. :)

SuperCoolAl
06-12-2005, 09:45 AM
Course I wanna do it, wouldn't truly be SF without voices would it? :)

I will also have plenty of time on my hands (about 12 weeks!) starting a week on Thursday.

Are we gonna put the radio noises from SF64 in or are we gonna do it without like SF:A?

AqueousShadow
06-12-2005, 06:29 PM
Oh, you mean the noise everytime a commlink pops up and then someone starts talking? I think it should be like that.

And uhh...even if you do have 12 weeks, you probably won't be able to put all of that time for working on this because things have to be laid out first. Voice acting is one of those processes that start a lot later in a MOD. But, stick around :D

DaBrain
06-12-2005, 07:44 PM
Uhm, I wrote something about that in the internal.

DZComposer

You sound like Wolf?

Very good. You won't need more than a microphone and a recording software.
Windows has an audio recorder. (search for sndrec32)

We still need to decide for a frequency and so on.

Grug

I asked around and Goober at HLP pointed me here: http://savage.samods.org/load.php

Its a voice acting guild. Apparently there are more about too.

It might be worth contacting someone to see if they want to help. Though whether they want to sound like Slippy is another thing... :p

*Ressurrects the topic*

IMHO, we need voice acting. Flashy effects and stuff are cool and all, but VO is somewhat needed, especially given the chaotic nature of your average SF mission. Who's got time to read orders when they're too busy killing 250 fighters? :D

Incidentally, I'm willing to try my hand at Fox himself.......that's if nobody has any objections.....

DaBrain
11-03-2005, 06:54 PM
No objections, except you want a Fox that sounds a bit german. ;) :nervous:

Killfrenzy
11-03-2005, 08:48 PM
Why German? *Raises eyebrow*

DaBrain
11-03-2005, 08:57 PM

But seriously, I'm probably no good voice actor anyway.

Killfrenzy
11-03-2005, 11:11 PM
Hehe - fair enough! Germany's a great place. :) However, Fox has always been American.....sadly......

Sly Fox 03
11-05-2005, 10:11 AM
No actually he's not American. The bloke who does his voice just is American. He's a fictional space fox from a place very, very, very far away from here.

He could have any acent. His name says he's scottish but anyway... He doesn't have to be american. (He could be german if you want him to)

Star Dragon

DaBrain
11-06-2005, 07:10 PM
Hey thanks for your support.

Well, I forgot who's in charge with the whole voice acting stuff, but I know someone took this task... :nervous:

I'd say... maybe you could lend your voice to a Cornerian pilot.

Can you disguise your voice?

Anubis
11-06-2005, 08:22 PM
I can do voices for a pilot.

Sly Fox 03
11-06-2005, 09:46 PM

DaBrain
11-06-2005, 09:52 PM
Some voice sample would be nice. ;)

Anyway, I think the voice acting won't start soon. There is a slight chance we can start this year though.

Star Dragon
11-06-2005, 10:02 PM
Ah , from the increased traffic in the thread I thought maybe you were ramping up for it now.

As for disguising, I'll leave that to your sound guy. I just do my normal accent (North Eastern) "PARK the CAR next to the STARfury" lol... It's not really THAT bad.

BlackWolf87
11-06-2005, 10:20 PM
Could I be a Venomian sergeant?(I can make my voice sound very deep.) Is there any room? If I can, I would be happy to help, especially to know I was one of the people who made a Starfox Game. I can give you guys a sample, but I don't really have a microphone..I'll buy one soon, promise :biggrin1:

DaBrain
11-06-2005, 10:29 PM
I didn't even think about the enemies. I guess that would be fine. ;)

But, we need a voice sample before we decide on the roles.

@Star Dragon

Acutally something important just changed. It doesn't matter that much, but we could start the voice acting earlier than planned.

Well, we'll inform all voice actors about our plans soon enough. ;)
Right now, we're not ready to start the voice acting anyway.

BlackWolf87
11-06-2005, 10:32 PM

You can make up one for the sample, but you'll probably get your lines from us as soon as we're ready.

If you're really going to take the role of an enemy, be ready to do some "I'm hit! ARRRGHH!!!"-stuff. ;)

@Sly Fox 03

Sure, no problem. We just need the mission before we start the voice acting.
Maybe we're forced to change something in the mission. We'd have to retake a lot of voice acting in this case. So I'd rather wait until we're done with 'enough' missions and start the voice acting.

Anubis
11-06-2005, 11:48 PM

So far, which main characters voices have been booked already?

Star Dragon
11-07-2005, 01:27 AM
get us all excited like that...

Yeah just let us know when you get all the charaters mapped out and have lines for them made. Seperate scripts are great but there is nothing wrong with a complete mission scripts (provided no one leaks them). That way you can either wait till the mod is all done minus voices or do them one mission at a time (all mission 1 voices now then 2 later ect...). Regardless missions will need to be most likely re-fredded for time dependant voices(unless you simply used your own voice in ALL roles and got all the fredding out of the way :).

AqueousShadow
11-07-2005, 05:23 AM
Nothing's set in stone, so don't hold your breath. We're anticipating this as much, if not more than, you, so let's calm things down and don't get too jumpy. I'd hate to have this abandoned and have our hopes crushed.

DaBrain
11-07-2005, 06:44 AM
I'll work on a role list when I'm back from work. ;)

But right away, I can say got Fox, Slippy and.... I think one or two other roles covered.

DaBrain
11-07-2005, 07:13 PM
Ok, I'm done with the list.

We got a lot(!) of positions covered already. I didn't expect that. Looks like voice acting is very popular. ;)

Well, the list in on the first page (first posting).
I'll try to keep it up-to-date.

Edit: This one should be sticky.

AqueousShadow
11-08-2005, 01:29 AM
Well, do understand that voice actors will be somewhat spoiling the plot for themselves, so they must be willing to sacrifice the excitement of unveiling the story and whatever.

That said, there will be a lot of people working on this...

BlackWolf87
11-08-2005, 03:35 AM

We are still a ways of from any of the major dialog. We could however start replacing the generic wingman/command persona files. I took the time to make a list of the voice files the game uses.

Wingman Persona Voice List

All Clear
Arrival (Enemy)
Attack
Backup
Check6
Death
Depart
Disable
Disarm
Engage
Help
Ignore
No
No Target
Oops1 (Response from a wingman when you shoot his/her ship.)
Player Dead
Praise
Stray
Traitor (You don’t want to shoot Slippy down this time) :drevil:
Yes

Command
Arrival
Loner (no backup available)
Oops1 (Shoot Friendly Ship)
Oops2 (Shoot Instructor)
Oops3 (Not sure about this one as it is the same as oops1)
Stray
Stray Final
Traitor

Sounds pretty good, and you went ahead and recorded for the generic template, which is also a good thing. I'd say there isn't really a problem with these, other than that we'd probably have to run them through filters or something to make them more believeable for the campaign. Good work

strike911
12-23-2005, 09:01 AM
yeah sure thing! Sorry for being a retard and not posting them on here. lol. The first sample below is from another game I was voicing... but it fell through. Supposed to have been in an FMV, but again, it fell through. Basically what it is, is an audio track to an animated video, but the animated video never really saw the light of day. The second is a very short little tryout for a halflife2 mod. All the voices here were done by me.

KCat
12-23-2005, 01:01 PM
Wow. Very impressive. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but uh... I think he'd be damn-near perfect for Fox (especially using the second non-radio voice in the radioFORhelp clip).

Not that I really have any say or anything. Just my opinion. :nervous:

AqueousShadow
12-24-2005, 03:57 AM
Dude...that's awesome. Haha, in the FMV one, which voice are you? The asshole or the guy who gets killed? Or are you both? Man, this is some top-notch stuff.

Now really I think it's up to you whether you want to commit to the project. Voice acting, as stated before, will come later though. Maybe soon...

strike911
12-24-2005, 08:06 AM
Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, commitment is no problem. If a project is good (like this one) then its fun to do voice over stuff. I'm all the voices in those clips; I can get my voice scratchier to sound like a chain smoker if I have to.

Real nice mod btw. I'm really excited for it, excellent work. AND, I'm a fan of DZcomposer, I see him floating around video game remixing sites every now and then! =)

DaBrain

I'm interested in a few samples. Fox, Falco (like you wrote in your PM) and Bill shouldn't be a problem for you.

Do you need some lines? From my side some standard sentences are enough.

BTW you seem to know a bit about sound editing. We need a lot of sound effects and we got only one sfx artist. I'm trying to work on a few things myself, but it's still a lot. If you'd like to help us with a few sound effects, just PM me.

This way you could join the team. :)

I'm sorry to sound like a complete n00b, but I do not do a whole lot of file uploading....where can I upload recordings of my voice for the members on this forum to listen to?

Try this site:

As soon as we start the voice acting, we'll find a better way to handle this. It's just fine for samples.

Blue Lion

Do you still need actors?

DaBrain
03-16-2006, 05:30 PM
Yes, there are quite a few roles left.

Take a look at the first posting and choose one you'd like to do. And please upload a sample somewhere.

You don't really need lines for the sample, just say something, that's not totally out of place. ;)

BTW to all voice actors: I'd like to start the voice acting for one mission soon. (As soon as it's complete, which should be next week...)
It's a test how well things work. Maybe we'll have to redo it partly later, that's why we'll start the real voice acting later. I just don't want to run into problems later, when we're done with everything and just waiting for the voice acting.

It might be alright for our voice acting, though do you have any equipment or programs through which you can edit your voice samples? It sounds as if you're using a cheapo plastic microphone, and if you're not, whatever you're using is picking up all the excess noise. Either you need to know how to get rid of it, or record in such a way that keeps that noise from getting there. If this is a just a quick test to show us your voice/tonal quality, then that's understandable.

Quite honestly, I can't tell what part would be good for you to play, but we'll leave that up to the others to decide :)

Blue Lion, try coming up with your own sample before criticizing.

you could just use standard Soundrecorder32, which comes with windows, its basic but it works great. :) I, myself am looking for good sound editing software however.

Hmm yeah. Maybe we'll need some voices for Cornerian fighter pilots.

Now that I think about it I think we'll need a few of them for sure. ;)

Nothing special unless you want to edit your voice.

Soundrecoder32 will be just fine. I use Audacity cause it's for free and not too bad. ;)

I'm only 18 too. One of the issues you have at the moment is getting into character. You don't quite know what mode you should get into just yet, but if you know you can get yourself into the mood, it's good.

And maybe it's just me. I know in another life I'd be a voice actor :p

Hey, sorry to come out of the blue. But I got here through another starfox website and happened to see this.

I'd love to help out with voice acting in any area. I'm a fairly good actor and I get into character rather easily. I've done drama work for 6 years now, as well as online voice work. I'm 19, and have a fairly younger sounding voice, but I can do various other voices. Monsters, cute creatures, odd creatures, comical guys. Whatever you wish.

If you'd like, I can record a few voice sample later. I can also point you to a couple of google video's where I act in to give you an idea of how goofy I can be and such. Not afraid to do battle cries and stuff.

Thanks!

What would be best is if you could sample some Star Fox characters, any that you are comfortable with.

and @ Arcthoudor Sound Recorder in Windows can do the job but a variety of programs offer recording services, for example GoldWave. Google it and you can find tons of resources.

Hello together,
this my first post, so first something about me:
my name is Dimitri, I'm 15 and live in Germany (neur Nürnberg). So if my English is not always perfect: sorry for that ;)
I like nearly everything that can fly (airplanes like Boeing and Airbus or military jets and of course the arwing^^). Look at my signature... there are a few links, the red one shows a few pics of my hobby: Flight Simulation.

Ok, back to topic: if possible I would like to help, too. I could speak nearly everyone. It doesn't matter if good or bad guy or even some other, not really important characters.
And do you need help in some other parts, too? Maybe I could help there...

We need a couple more voices, so please send send send some samples of various forms acting. You can emulate characters from the StarFox series if you want. Anything is fine, just so long as we can hear your voice.

Again, we need a few more voices so if anyone out there is interested, please send us some samples. You can put the URL here, or you can PM me or one of the devs.

1. A landing reaquest in an approaching plane. Sample01 (http://home.arcor.de/conaly/sample01.wav)
2. Falco in StarFox64, when Fox hit him. ("Hey einstein, I'm on your side!") Sample02 (http://home.arcor.de/conaly/sample02.wav)

Maybe it's a bit too quite, sorry for that.

I was able to record a few samples today and also found some sample I recorded back in May. I was only able to post to at the moment, as they were the onlyones small enough, because of how short they are, but they give ya an idea. If you would like to hear more, just drop me a ling an I'll see what I can do, if I have to, I can lower the quality of the others to get them to fit here. Anyway thanks for your interest. I am willing to help anyway I can.

Those were recorded a bit last minute, so quality wise there not great. I could possibly do General Pepper or bill as well as Fox, since you have Fox filled. I will gladly take any role however. Even if its a baddy like Wolf, or a new char. I wil compress some of my other clips and try to upload them by the morning. Thanks.

werefox18
08-08-2006, 07:10 AM
Here are the other Clips Recorded today, They were long, so I had to compress them quite a bit to fit here, so there only about 32KBps or less. Sorry I had to make the last one a zip file, it was about 7kb to big, and makeing it a zip solved that. Its been a long time since I played Starfox 64, so I dont remember any of Bill's lines, if I heard them again, I could try to match them. I hope I'll be of use to you, Striker. I would love to see everything come together nicely.

strike911

me being Fox, is entirely a placeholder, so Fox is an open spot. I'm in there at the moment so we could test out the recording protocol and see if we could get some things done like that, so yeah, nothing is really set in stone, so if you have your heart set on a character then its still possible to get Fox.

And thanks for the extra samples. =)
