Fred Version - Retail v1.20

Ok i need a little help. Im trying to find the target-subsytem command. Ive looking the the entire list but i still cant find it.

Im trying to get a ship to fire it's beam at another ships' turret/subsytem.

Ok, you can only do that with the fire-beam sexp. Beam Cannons by themselves hardly ever hit subsystems that they're supposed to. So follow something like in the pic I've attached.

Once you create the sexp, you'll only get 3 fields, ship firing, turret to fire, and target. The fourth one, which is optional, is the target subsytem, you can add it by right-clicking, going down to Add Data and then selecting a subsystem.

Thankyou very much for your help  . I wonder why they hid this option.... :nervous:

Ok ive got another problem, Ive got a waypoint (with three points) that i tell a corvette to do but for some reason it just sits there. Does it have anything to do with my use of the "waypoint-once" sexp? Or is it because the path of the waypoint brings the ship into close proximity of another ship?

Can you post a screen shot of where you give the order? I don't completely understand this either right now.

Hmmmm. I can't think of any reason why a ship wouldn't obey orders to follow waypoints. I've seen them smash into each other doing that so I doubt proximity is a problem.

Are you sure the ships are actually getting the order? Do you have a message being sent in the same event so that you can check?

Ive setup the ship (soberk) and placed the waypoint infront of it, and i have given it the inital order (waypoints-once) to do them with a priority of 89. But it still fails to move. it just sits there in the same position.

@ Axem, ive just told it to do the waypoints via "Inital Orders".

Does the ship have any other initial orders that might be conflicting with the waypoint order? I agree with kara--I see little reason why the ship won't move.

Well for some reason it seems to be working now, but the problem is that it doesnt seem to trigger the "waypoints-done-delay" command properly but i just timed how long i needed to to go for and made a new SEXP based on time instead.

Just recently i was unable to activate my warp drive, but it started working. Anyway I'll post again, if anything else comes up.

Hey kara, i was just looking though the public forum and i noticed that you asked me if you could make a link to my Modelview FAQ, quite awhile ago. Sorry i didnt reply, i never noticed it, anyway you're always welcome to link it to your FAQ,(if you havent done so already).

Ok ive got another problem, im trying to get a ship to kamazarzi into another ship near the end of the mission. I cant seem to find the "activate-kamazrzi" command.

Im also getting the following errors from FRED:
"Player starting wing Beta has orders that don't match other starting wings"
"Player starting wing Gamma has orders that don't match other starting wings"

Should i be concerned with these errors, why is this occuring & how do i fix this type of error.

The two FRED errors are ignorable. They don't affect the game.

If they start to bug you just remove them from initial orders and reissue them in an event.

As for kamikaze you have main 2 choices.

1) The Kamikazi box in Ship Editor >> Misc (Good for ships that jump in and immediately attempt to kamikazi

2) The Kamikazi SEXP in FRED2_Open. Of course you'd have to move over to SCP for this one but it's a much better choice if you want to have a ship become a kamikazi later on in the mission.

arrg damit, made a thread at HLP. anyway thankyou for your help. Looks like i might have to do some complicted waypoints to get the ships to approch each other and self destruct. It should look enough like a kamikazi, i hope.

Or could i make my mission in Fred Open, but play it in retail?

No you cant, if you make the mission in Fred_Open then it has to be played in FS2 open as it uses different SEXP's to retail FRED.
