Post your best here.... Also, if someone could help me design some new buttons for this forum it would be nice (as I just slapped these together with photoshop.)

MatthewPapa

I am going to take the liberty to post some pictures from the Robotech MOD project and all of the hard work they have done already.... (and to relieve some of the pressure inside Star Dragons briefcase)

By the way, I am working on it so that images con be displayd clearly as thumbnails in the forum. Give me a day or so. For now post your images as attachments.

ill be glad to make you some buttons, just tell me what you want. to help start this off, here is some art...
<aaart in a sec...forgot that tripod was stupid

Try uploading the file David.Tripod is being a bitch.

I was thinking of changing this forum's styles to blue (same shadings and everthing but in blue) but I am flexible. Just use yout creativity and I will change the forum setting to match the buttons.

NIce, is that design anime inspired? It sorta makes me think of a male version of Raven possibly (from TT)... l8tr!

[EDIT]: I should have come here earlier, anyway I copied your button sizes and whipped these up for the Robotech Forum. Would these work? Also how about a title pic? What dimensions can it be? (is it similar to the game warden title pic?).

L8tr! (I hope you guys like them)...

Ransom Arceihn

I'm not sure what TT is, but yes it's supposed to be anime-ish.

Those buttons are pretty good, the text on the Q-Reply and Quote ones could be more centred though.

MatthewPapa
10-29-2004, 11:02 PM
Ok, so you want sort of a greyish style then? Those buttons look great! http://freespaceserver.cjb.net/forumreplace/
In case you diddnt see this link in my other post, you can look at all of the buttons that I have right now and design ones that correspond with their sizes. It doesnt have to be exact but relatively close. Its probably better that they be a tad bit bigger if anything. If you have anything you would like to contribute you can post it here or upload it via FTP.

Star Dragon
10-29-2004, 11:45 PM
No problem, but HOW much bigger? I searched through the folder and copied down like 5 or 6 more I have to make but they are the same sizes you got now. Incidently when I make them my robotech font does NOT go below 8 so I have to make the button and then shrink it. it's kinda off cause I use irfranview and it's not exact for placement (I have to play with it till I think it's close). I started off with a grey bar 100X800 that has a speckled border that turns solid black when it gets shrunk, I think they turned out alright. I will try to get the others centered more but if I keep having trouble I will use the best ones.

Just give me upper limits when you get around to it and I'll see how they look compared to the ones I got now... Plus I will think of how to make a title one, so far the most complicated thing I've made is my sig and again I don't use anything other than Irfranview so please no photoshop talk (like layers and stuf) he he... Hard to believe I try to do so much with so little skills.

L8tr!

BTW I just bought and finished FreeLancer, extracting core ships and converting now... ;)

MatthewPapa
10-29-2004, 11:51 PM
Well, theoretically it should work no matter what the size is. Its really just up to you on how big you want to make it.

Star Dragon
10-29-2004, 11:59 PM
One thing I found is that with certain fonts (like for Start Trek and Robotech) sometimes shrinking it to a certain degree deforms the font (not using proper setting) and the pixels then get displayed wrong and ruins the effect you wanted in the first place (like for Star Trek I love teh solid one with the outline around the letters, like hull registrations, but if I use the wrong size and then manipulate it it merges parts of the outline with the inner part)... God help me if I try to edit SHIP textures later on for naming starships with that damn font!!! No wonder they call it an art...

[EDIT]: WOOT! I don't know if you did anything but I can change display settings now!!!! Thank you! For now I am going with the red... (I love red, black, blue, and grey themes. They feel more military like)

Just let me know when you have finished the buttons and I will apply them to your forum. I am hoping that by the time HLP comes back up we can have all of these style issues taken care of. No rush though.

MatthewPapa
11-05-2004, 09:21 PM
You gotten those buttons done yet? It would be nice if I could put them up this weekend. Still, no rush though.
I have been advertising for the Robotech MOD everywhere. Hopefully we may have some more people in our ranks soon.

Star Dragon

I'll be finishing them up in a bit possibly tomorrow. I've been catching up on a lot of posts (I follow a lot of gamespy sites and this outage sucked donkey balls)... ;)

Stupid me has ben up ever since I got home from work this morning. I'm out the door for some food adn then a much needed nap. If I get lucky I will get on it around 9 or 10. BTW what is the easiest way to send them (as I don't want to screw up the folder or get the wrong one, ect..) I was thinking of making a .rar file and send you the link... Whatever way is good for me,

L8tr!

MatthewPapa
11-05-2004, 10:01 PM
Just upload them as an attachment to the forum (zip, rar or something as such). If you dont want anyone looking at it you could even password the file. FTP even. Whatever works best for you.

Star Dragon
11-06-2004, 04:00 AM
Sory but for some reason it says .rar is invalid and I do not have winzip.. So here they are again with the new ones. Should be final unless sizes are too big, plus I am working on the title banner, but that won't be ready for a while... l8tr!

I see you added the buttons to the RT forum, they look better in place then I thought they would (NICE). I have been pimping around a little but mostly I frequent the othe gaming sites.

Any suggestions as to what types of projects you want to host besides FS ones? That would help narrow down some places to leave word at.

Thanks.
Pretty much any game that is Sci-fi based would fit well here. I wouldnt hesitate to host any really well deserving project though. Thanks for your help with the advertising though. BTW, if there are any style changes you feel you need to make (colors, sizes, etc) you can change them via Admn control panel.

Also, try a different browser or turning your firewall off.
If anyone else has this problem, let me know.

EDIT: Problem was on my end. Should work fine now! Stupid default settings said JPEG pictures could only be 80X80. Now they are unlimited.

This is the title art I did (actually a while ago), tell me what you think... Ya'll were talking about changing the color scheme to grey, I can do that too. the top one of the three is my favorite, kind of a combination of the other two. I have each in banner form, what you see is just to show all three.

Star Dragon
11-09-2004, 06:09 PM
I mentioned Grey for my section [ROBOTECH], (Thanks again Matt I love it!) so it matches the custom buttons I made.

I haven't gotten around to a section banner (YET) cause happily things have picked up. If things start winding down again I will throw a beta one together. (I'm not very graphically inclined so don't expect any great work of art)...

That's kinda Ironic, I'm producing no "art" in the art thread...

well it's going great! check the Robotech section (that's why it's hosted here we have many rt threads in my area of the forum. Thanks to Matt!)...

[EDIT] WOW! You can now choose RT style for the whole board?

"Look ma! I'm on top of the world!" - and is promptly killed by the Regis!
:D

I like defualt style away from my little section. It reminds me of HLP...

If you won't mind. I figured here was ok cause it is not a screenshot but instead a forum banner (though I did consider posting it in my mod suggestion/comment thread) but I thought "what the hell, he'll move it if I put itint he wrong place." ;) Thank-You!

Well, I was bored last night, so I made this 3d model. It is fully inverse kinematicized (is that even a word?) so that I can quickly and easily animate it. The only thing i dont like are the the textures on it, but i plan to fix those. anyway, tell me what you think. here are some various views and positions. the ribs, fins, tail, spine, and jaw are all set up to be easily moved and animated. the one that is just a sillouette i made for a desktop background, and the other one that is different i was just playing with. some of the image qualities are lower because i made them jpegs to save download time. Tell me what you think!

Remember, all art is copyright David Holcomb, 2004

What program do you use to render?

Darkside_Heartless

If HTML's enabled on this board I could post a 3D viewer of my latest work :)
It requires a plugin from http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft
I know the guy who made it, so it's quite safe. Unfortunatly it was never finished so you have to use IE and have DX 9 installed to see it properly. :blah:

Harlequin

I used Moray and POV Ray to render that. I also use Bryce and Poser Artist. I dont like doing objects in Bryce so I usually end up building all my objects in moray. I am also just not very good at Poser (yet), but i plan on learning.

TT i think means Teen Titans. It's like batman and superman except it's abunch of wierd kids with powers. Corny in my oppinion. I kinda see the resemblance though.

I only get to scan things every once in a while.... I don't have a computer, so I visit the local library, which doesn't have a scanner. When I get to my Gran's house I can put more pictures up, which is what I'm doing now.
I also take requests if anyone is interested.

I feel that already Ive learnt a lot with the exercise, dont get me wrong but when it comes to game art the most important aspect is getting the high poly to a low poly, then textured well. high poly work is very enjoyable, but its always getting the hp to lp that i find hardest.
