• Since we're having an issue with spam and very few people use this website, I've closed Game-Warden to new user registrations. Any FS2, BtRL, SoL, etc questions can be directed to HLP instead.

What's up, what's down and what's stationary

The answer to all three of these is... Shadows of Lylat.

It is our regret to the fans that this mod has pretty much ceased all activity.

No real work has been done for ages sadly. We've tried multiple times to find ways to revive ourselves with focused goals and new ideas. Unfortunately, they didn't take and we were just right back where we were before.

As well we've moved on with life. Finding jobs, going to school, other fun things in life. Those things didn't help matters for the mod, but they couldn't really be helped.

So that's it. The mod is dead! It was fun while it lasted.

Hold on here, what about all that cool stuff in the screenshots?
We still have it all. What we have may be released if I can get enough people's permission. It isn't fair to you to show off all of these things and never deliver, but it also isn't fair to release without permission.

Can I continue where you left off?
There is no reason why you can't, but you'll have to go it alone. Learning to mod Freespace is very easy and there's a wealth of information on HLP on that stuff. If you would want to use any released materials in your own games or mods, you will be able to, but credits MUST be given. Everything would be released as-is, no support or help will be given.

Thank you all for your... sometimes nutty, devotion to this mod. Even when we haven't really been around at all, you stuck around. We're sorry to disappoint.

If you like space sims in general, be sure to check out Hard Light Productions, the community there is still very much alive with many fun mods and campaigns to play.

It's been fun. I wish we could have made it the whole way to release but I'm glad we could announce the end rather than just fading away.

Wellp. I'm not sure how I feel about this, but it's nice to get some closure. I will definitely like access to some of those models.

Thank you for the announcement, and thank you very much for the effort to keep it alive.

Have you been able to get in touch with DaBrain lately?

Well I hope you get permission to release. I really think it would be possible to knock together a space combat game from what you already have fairly easily. I think it's the feature creep to land based missions that killed you, right?

well that stinks, had I come just a month earlier I might have caught dabrain, and I was hoping for his return to rejuvinate the project. well, I would be willing to start up something new(I have made some of my own stuff, but I would need a team). actualy I have a propisition, unless dabrain returns out of no where, I would like to start up a new team, using whatever assets axem is willing to let us use, and of course some I have already made(I love making fighters-small/medium size craft, and I have some new good refs as well). so I am willing to set up a thread on the freespace modding thread, then I want to recruit a new team, wish that this hadnt ended, but I do want to see a good, complete mod with a large variety of craft, and the first priotity is space, as I am still new to this, that is the priotity to me in the first release, land combat would have to wait till later. if anyone has interest here, go to HLP to check out the my propisition. also Axem, I would really like it if you would be willing to be an advisor/consultant for my team

I must say I'm quite disappointed, I've waited patiently for 7 years just to be told it was for nothing. I'm not blaming you guys on the team, I understand how life tends to get in the way, I'm just sad to hear that such a promising mod won't see the light of day as it was first imaged. Thanks anyhow fellas, it's been fun

I know this is disappointing, but things go as they do and all the team members have been kept away from the mod for far too long.

So this is a big and sincere sorry, and an equally big and sincere thanks for your support.

Some of us have already replied positively to the content releasing request. We'll see in the (near) future what can be shared with the community.

Isn't there a way you could find replacements to carry on the mod? Theres so much material already finished that it would be a shame to just let it go.

I can't believe its going to end like this.. I was so sure you guys would release.. :(
SoL was my example for my own starfox mod. We are always looking up to you, whether its on the plan of professionalism or Aesthetics. Qualities that even got you guys featured in a few video game press articles.

Anyways, I know nothing about the freespace engine but I'm a programmer, so depending on what you guys can release and the state it is in, I could maybe try to make it at least playable if it isn't already. I can't speak for my team though, it would be just me. So if anybody else would like to eventually help with that, contact me.

Any chances you guys will write a post-mortem ? I think it would be very useful.

It’s definitely sad news guys. That is for sure, a lot of hard work has been put into this project. A lot of us wanted to see it succeed. It was great working with team. I loved working with people from all over the world on this project.

I will be keeping ShadowsOfLylat.net up for as long as the domain lasts and I don't have to pay for it again. I do hope soon that we can get permission to release the content we did have and if so I will make sure its hosted for download for all you guys. Who knows maybe one of you will lead the next fan-made Star Fox game to completion!

I wish I had more to say but the shots been called and we just couldn't seem to rise again like we had in the past. In my mind this also calls into question what will happen to Game-Warden as I think SoL has been bringing in most of the traffic an that's not very much. I think the only other project that seems to still trucking along is Stargate SG-1: Earth's Defence which had an update a week ago.

I wish you all on your journeys as we each go our separate ways, and who knows maybe some of us will work together on a future project. As always anyone can reach me via private message on Game-Warden.

Thanks Brox, it means a lot to us that you'll keep the site going, and will host the assets if they're released.
I also am a little concerned for the future of game-warden. I wonder if there is anyway to archive everything here onto hard-light, and convince jc4jc to move his mod over?

Anyway, mando's mod could be promising if we get a few more members, and I have something of my own in the works. SoL will not be forgotten, and it will live on in us!

Yup.

To be honest, I think if you get the rights to SoL's stuff you could release something fairly quickly. SoL had a similar problem to Diaspora with feature creep and trying to make sure that everything they had was the best quality. In SoL's case it looks like it was terminal.

If you simply decide to get something out and improve upon it later, I can't see that taking too long.

@karajorma:
Yeah, that's pretty much what I had in mind.

The way I see it, is that you guys seem to be out of motivation, members, and time.
I think we can surely find that around.

It is quite a disappointment, this is probably the oldest mod and the one I've followed the longest. :sigh:

If those that started the mod don't mind, it would be awesome if you released the models and perhaps a plot synopsis and features you were going to include in SoL. Perhaps I can survive some or most of the mod in my Starfox RTS?

I tried that 2 years ago trying to get some help for my starfox rts, never heard back myself, and some of this stuff is a tad bit too much for a rts, and wont look nearly as good
