What is this?

This project is a fan made game that runs on the FreeSpace_Open engine. It is not for any console system, and we are not affiliated by Nintendo, Argonaut Software, Namco, Q-Games, or anyone else terribly important.

Do go on...

To play it, all you will need is a fairly recent computer system. Exact system requirements aren't set yet, but they shouldn't be that bad. It is our hope that you will not need FreeSpace 2 installed to play, the final outcome should be a stand alone game.

So what's going to be in it?
A great many things...

* Lots of playable craft, including 3 different Arwings
* Weapons galore
* Enemies, both new and old
* Space and ground based missions
* A deep storyline
* Multiplayer
* And probably more!

When does the story take place?
The story takes place between Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Adventures. Yes, there is content from Assault, but there are good reasons for that.

Will we see Andross?
No. Next question.

Is it going to be just like Star Fox?
No. Star Fox is more of an arcade shooter, while Freespace is a simulation shooter. While the SCP allows us to do many awesome things, we won't be able to get it just like the original games.

Why is SoL a special game among the FS2_open games?
SoL is ment to push the engine to it's limits, using the most recent features the engine has and will get.
We're using everything we can to make sure SoL is always one of the most advanced games based on Freespace 2.

When is it coming out?
It will be done when it is done. We're doing this in our own and for zero money, so that's the best we can give you.

That being said, we're trying our best to get a demo done for people to try. When that comes out is another bunch of wonderful question dodging. (We're working on it.)

Will this run on a Mac or on Linux?
The engine is cross platform, so should run on any major platform.

What is the high-end package?
The high-end pack is ment for users with real high-end machines only. It features extremely high-res textures for some models and might feature some more complex models.
It's gernerally stuff, we decided to remove from the main game, as the visual improvements do not justify the performance loss on most PCs.
You need a 512 MB gfx card to use this pack.

Thanks, I forgot to add it somehow. Probably because I did just copy the text from the old board. ;:)

Heh. One of my favorite games on the n64 (besides goldeneye) was starfox 64. Good luck with this guys! It looks really promising....

Hmmm, seriously, any projected release date of this mod? I really like the looks of it....but I'm not sure whether to invest in Freespace 2 or not.

Also, have you guys considered modding a different game to fit a Star Fox theme? A game such as Battlefield 1942 or Star Wars Battlefront?

Sure. 2006-2007 sound good? Maybe 2008 at the latest. We can't get more exact than that I'm afraid. ;) They take quite a while to do. There's a few ones that have been in progress for 5 years, so I wouldn't expect to see a ton for awhile.

If you are interested in FS2, it's generally considered abandonware, so there are places you can find it...

But the end goal is to make it a totally stand-alone game, so you wouldn't need to get FS2.

And we're pretty much limited to FS2 'round here, so a no go on those other games.

Dang.....I need to find some group who would like to do a mod for either of those games....or just have them wait and make it for Battlefield 2. 2006? 2007?! Wowza, that's a LONG while.....oh well, hopefully it'll be good, and won't be dropped.

We could release a demo, but not anytime soon. But if we release a demo, it it will probably come out this year.

And I'm sure this project won't be dropped. I enjoy working on it. And almost all members are pretty productive (where's Kuruma?). :)

would you need Freespace 2 for the demo? Or would it be stand-alone?

I'm pretty sure you'll need Freespace 2. But if some other stand-alone mods (like The Babylon Project) lend us some stuff we might be able to make it stand-alone.

yeah, you can get it on this very forums, but I don't have DSL or cable...and it'd take literally forever to download the 1.5 gig game. Now before you go ridiculing me about not getting DSL or thinking I'm crazy, let me explain; Where I live (yes, it's in the US) we are not ABLE to get DSL/Cable out here....only 56K/Satellite (which is too much for a not so great speed.) So....we're stuck with 56K, unless Spring lives up to what they said earlier.....they said that *supposedly* we would be able to get Spring DSL pretty soon....heh....yeah right!

It this becomes a stand-alone version, it will be far smaller.

Probably more around 200-300MB, bur perhaps more.

With the last pre-alpha pack + some of my new things, we're @ ~50 MB.
But I've worked on the starmap. As soon as it is complete I can (and will) create Command Briefing animations. And that will add at least 50 Mb. Probably more.

It's too early to think about this, but we could put optional stuff into seperate files for dl.

okay, im the newb here.... u guys requested modders on Gaming Forums so I came here to help.... What format is/are the 3d files in and Where is a link to this Freespace thingy?

modder as in modeller? I don't believe we need any more of those ATM. You could ask the rest, but I think we have a good team of 'em.

A project’s web site is usually a better place (depending on how often they update it) to see what positions a need filled. Click Me.

Yeah, Between Me, Omni, Axem, and now DaBrain is learning Modeling I think we got that area pretty much covered.
