Campaign Intorduction - FSAR

Hello Folks...im Art Kelson and im here to introduce my New FSO Campaign...called "alternate Reality"...or short...FSAR...so here some Infos and I hope there are still People playing FS2 Open...and watching for new Campaigns...

Facts:

-The former "Star-Systems" are renamed to "Star-Sectors"...which are then divided into "Systems"...for Example...
The Vega Sector is divided into 12 other Systems which can be Starbases,Planet Systems,Asteroid Fields etc.
-Fighter,Bombers and other small Vessels like Shuttles CANT jump from one to another Sector...they are binded to the Sector
and can only be transported to another Sector by bigger Vessels,like Carriers or Flagships etc...they actually can JUMP
inside the different Sectors...from System to System...
-The Area of the Galaxy that Campaign takes place is about 3500x3500 LY of Space and ends at the "the big Blackness" and
the "inner Core"...Sigma Europium,Siga and Zeta Aurigea are the most farest Star Sectors as the Voyage of the People is
stoped by the "outer Rims Blackness" and the "inner Core Sectors"...
-Its Timedate 2364,the different Cultures are in a new Age,where Space travelling becomes much faster and more comfortable...
-There are 7 Different"Cultures"...
Terran(Alliance),Terran(Federation),Terran(Pirates),Vasudan(Alliance),Vasudan(Federation),Shivan(Empire),Ancients(Neutrals)

Situation:

The Stardate is 1.6.2364 NT...You are Egon Mariner a young Pilot,freshly signed up at the Alliance Space Academy...after
being one of the best Pilots ever,you being reassigned to the Tau-Ceti Sector to safe Peace in a Time where no official
War takes Place...but the People among the Alliance are disapointed with theyr Goverment and much of them are moving to the Federation of the free Planets...which always disliked the Imperialistic System the Alliance represents...this is where the Story sets in...

Content:

-45 completely new Star Sectors,divided into more then 250 Systems...giving lots of missionmaking Space...:D
-Complete Overhaul of the Story and the Universe etc...based on Briefings and other Story Expressions...
-A 35+ Campaign...set up in the "dark Time"...we all want the Earth to be almost doomed again...:D
-Completely redesigned Names for Spacevessels based on there Appaerance,rather then Greek or Egyptian Gods...
-Fight against Pirates,FFPs,Shivans and even the Alliance itself...
-Experience the Shivan Genocide and how Cultures finally find a Way to stop the Shivan Thread...
-Get to know what the "+" means in Terms of Campaign...as you find out about a Conspirancy between Alliance and the Shivans
-Lead your Wingmens,from cheap Patrol Missions to the great Starbattles of that Time...

Not in the Mod:

It was also planned to implement new Ships...but my Ships.tbl is already at 384 kb...so I rather edit the vanilla Ships...give them other Names and Loadout etc..it is also planned to do some new Anis,Briefings etc...to construct a completely new Story...

Content when done:

-48 completely new Star Sectors with more then 250 Systems for lots of Mission making Space :D
-Complete Overhaul of Story,Universe and Timeline imported to the Ingame History
-Complete redesigned Designation for Spacevessels imported into Ingame Ship Description
-Complete redesigned Designation for Weapons imported into the Ingame Weapons Description
-Campaign settled in the FSAR Universe

Story:

Stardate 8.8.2374...Battle at Olympos...The united Terran,Vasudan and smaller Cultures Fleets,in struggle with the Shivans.The Hive has finally been found and the Federation has already started theyr Invasion of Olympos IV,about 6000 Lightyears away from Sol.Terran Marines try to bring a new invented Virus into the Shivans Hive and so any of them might be infected...The Shivans Queen starts its last affort for Counter Measures and orders theyr Satanus Ships to create a Supernova,destroying the Olympos Sector Star at Hand...thus opening a Portal bringing them back to inner Core Sectors where they once started theyr Genocide...

This is where the Story begins...long Time has passed since the Humanoids have spoke out the Word Victory...Milliards of Lifes have been extincted,departured or killed whilst Galactic Warfare...even Sol was once in the Grasp of the ultimative Agony...the Shivan Thread...the Hordes...that came in Masses,like Locusts eatin up the World...and leaving any System plank and without Life...

To that Date the Shivans have been thrown back...an Empire has to fall...a Lightbringer has to die...and a whole Galaxy has to be unified,to End that surreal Battle against a cold and doubtless Foe...a less mistified and a more horrible,monstrous and straighter Campaign needs to take Place...and a young Pilot has to tell his Story,about the dark Time...can you hear them crying...the Voices of the dead Souls floating through the Vacuum,beging for relief...

This Campaign is set up in a totally alternated Freespace Universe...a new Galaxy with more then 250 unique Systems giving lots of Mission making Space...all Shiptechdetails,completely reaaranged and every Spacevessel with a new Designation...completely rearranged History and finally a complete new Story,independent from the original Freespace Universe...

The first Mission:

You are Egon...Egon Mariner,based on the infamous Outpost Garrison in Homebound System,Tau-Ceti Sector...you have been send to the Outpost to enforce the 128.Homeguard Division,which is responsible for Security in the inner Empire Sectors...Its just a normal Day,with a normal Patrol...nothing Special at all...well its just the Life of a Mariner...I was always wondered ???...why do Pilots know of the latest intelligence Information,whilst parts of the Command doesnt even have a Clue off them...:D...well he gets a really rough Introduction into his Duty,commanded by an annoyed Lieutnant (Tooner) and a even more annoyed Outpost Command Communicator,which obviously dont like to Babysit Navy Academian Newbies...

In 0.0.6 all the Background Info is imported into the Game...there are some Placeholder .Ani Files which will be improved,once I found a more comfortable Way to make .MVE and .ANI Files...the "tstring.Tbl" has been set up for booth,English and German Version,so theyr shouldnt be any Conflicts...the Mod itself is in English Language...

Voice Files have been excluded,because my Micro just sucks...but the first Mission has been dramatically enhanced and is now filled up with more then 15 Message Events...and more then 50 Events overall...
 
Probably not, though .MVE is still Interplay IP last I checked. IIRC that's why it was removed from the FS source code. I doubt if Interplay can afford law-suits anymore. They might be interested in how AK managed to create an .MVE though.....:doubt:
 
Epsilon Vircinis? It should be Virginis.
Zeta Aurigea? It should be Aurigae.

And Lacertea should be Lacertae, but it wouldn't make sense(Lacertae means "of the lizard", we still use "lacerta" in our local dialect :) ), it should have a Greek letter near it(i.e. Alpha Lacertae).

EDIT: There should be Beta Pegasi, not Pegas. :)

It's something we're not supposed to have it (this is going back to the early Descent Manager days) so it's not avaliable widely.
 
By the Way...nothing in modding Files is illegal,as long as I don´t use it to make Money or for Commercial Purposes...how do you think Mods in Oblivion,Stalker or Alien vs. Predator 2,would exist if it´s illegal to mod them...

Right lets clear this one up quickly.

1. No one can stop you modding games on your own computer. Distribution on the other hand is a completely different matter. Volition and the companies who make the games you mention have every right to sue anyone who distributes a game based on their Intellectual Property as derivative works. That means if you include any races or characters from FS2 or include any ships that are based on FS2 ships in your mod or even textures or sounds that are based on :v:'s works they can sue you for breach of their copyright.
Now just because no one chooses to shut down mods for minor IP violations doesn't mean that they can't.

2. The MVE2AVI and AVI2MVE programs are both illegal since Interplay holds the rights to the MVE format. Interplay have apparently sent C&D letters to websites hosting both of these programs in the past (based on what I've heard).
Interplay currently has much bigger problems than protecting a very old video compression format. That does not make it legal.
 
I know at least 3 Games that also uses .Mve Sound Files...what about them ?

I only said its not illegal to Mod Game Files,as long as I dont use it to make Money in any Terms...

And that's where you're wrong. Which is why I pointed it out. If you alter any file that Volition created and include it in your mod then you have made a derivative work and they can sue you for it because you have broken the law by not getting their permission to create a derivative work.

Copyright is not legally negated upon free distribution of the product. Companies may not go after you if you're free but don't assume that means you're legal.

Legal/Illegal...these kind of Discussions happen a lot in almost any Modding Community I know.

Yes. And it's usually because someone comes along and claims that what they are doing is legal when it isn't. There is a world of difference between legal and illegal but no one is going to stop me.

No one on this board wants to stop you from making your mod. No one is saying that it isn't in the best interests of the company to allow you to mod their game. But unless you have a signed contract with :v: and Interplay giving you the rights to alter and distribute material based on their IP you do not have any legal right to do so.

Get the makers of the mods you mentioned were to spam the companies boards with claims that their mod was better and see how long they'd last before they got a C&D. If the mod was legal they could do that and no one could do anything to them.

Hello Art,

Glad to see you got some original ideas you want to pursue. A little tip though, when it comes to modding best to walk on eggshells. Also, Karajorma has been immensely helpful to the masses in terms of modding advice so best to take everything he says into consideration (well as far as mods go, I mean I still have my own life to live... Right Kara? :P )

Also in as tactful a way I can say this, (for you as well as the masses) this Mod board might answer some of your questions or searches... I will not elaborate, so no one PM me about this or mention it again...

I know about what Karajormas is doing for others...as he also helped me a lot on another FS2 Forum...and my Intention was not to put Critics on him,as I always thought Modding is legal...well as it seems im wrong...

Your correct for saying its illegal and I dont want to argue about it at all...you pointed that out very clearly...but I have made Experiences with other Games like for Example Oblivion and Stalker...this modding Communitys are 100% supportet by the Developers of the Game and would never be sued,even if its illegal like you say...but I have honestly to say,if its seen as critical as on FS2 Boards,I´d rather abandon this Project completely...I also deleted the Thing about the Audio-Tool...maybe I get sued for it...don´t get me wrong,but you won´t recruit new Modders,by pointing out so seriously that modding is illegal...specially if its inside theyr modding Threads...

Can Admins plz delete this whole Thread...THX
