LMAO, sorry I just have some funny memories of that ICE effect story. Everyone was trying hard to help out DZC with that one and I remember the audio recording of the screwdriver made me die laughing.

FS2_Open classifies everything as one of a few basic types (ship, weapon, explosion, etc).
Since there never was a landscape type, as far as the engine is concerned the landscape is a ship. This isn't anything particularly new in and of itself. The giant asteroid in BtRL for instance was also technically a ship.
What SoL have done though is to come up with lots and lots of new tricks to make this trick more believable than any project that came before them.

Lol there's nothing wrong with it anyway as long as we have a landscape!  Nice trick anyway.
Hummm, that just made me think about something. Will you make destroyable landscape with that?
