Backstory first:

I had FS2 on a seperate hard drive. Main one crashed, even lost registry entries.

Backstory end.


Now, although i've changed the launcher INIs to my new drive name, whenever i try and use ANY launcher it either only opens in the task list, or opens and crashes with something like this

AppName: launcher.exe AppVer: 5.5.0.4 ModName: launcher.exe
ModVer: 5.5.0.4 Offset: 0000e97e

Whats wrong? How can it be fixed?

Be aware i no longer have non-corrupt ISOs and will not spend $6 SUD on anything.
 
So let me get this straight, you've never paid for the game, and yet now that you can legitimately acquire for $cheap$, you refuse to do so? Wouldn't the fact that it's legit now make your Dad happy enough to buy it for you anyway?

Regardless, why not just delete the inis altogether? You can run the launcher all by its lonesome to see if something is wrong. And what does the launcher not running have to do with not wanting to buy the game? Retail FS and the SCP Launcher are two completely unrelated things.

To eliminate all chances 'buy the game, it'll be fixed' will be offered as a fix.

Specifics:

I removed the laucner.ini files (now the laucner willa ctually start up)
Using the 5.5 launcer....
I double click the icon
It opens
Everything is fine
I select a build, any build
i get a whole bunch of 'unrecognized command line' messages. Normal, since i last used 3.6.9

Long loading time...

And then it crashes, error specifics....

Been a week, still waiting so i can play FS2.

Edit: Did i mention it's doing ti with TBP and BTRL? I hope i don't need a reinstall...ISOs are getting hard to find.

They're getting harder to find because they're illegal.

Go pay a buck and a half to GOG and they'll give you the game legitimately.
 
I will do my absolute best to come up with a solution to fix a problem for a game you pirated... that I paid for (more than 6 dollars mind you)

Any minute now... gonna come up with a solution... hold on a sec.
 
I originally got it from turey's isntaller and the files once linked at this forum, as did alot of others. please stop telling me to buy buy a game i really can't afford......There ARE other fixes.

Also, it seems it might be the registry...... o_o

Any exampels of what fs2 registyr entries are NORMALLY?

Also, FS2 and all it's standalone mods are on an external drive.

I still have TBP/BTRL which have the same problem anyway, you can come up with a fix for that without damaging your moral fiber, right?

HOWEVER, have you never mowed a lawn or shoveled snow?

Offer to babysit some "twerps" (a pokemon term), or possibly go into an alley and offer a trench-coated gentleman some manual "relief".

I'm sure $6.00 is not the insurmountable amount you make it out to be...

And winter is over, my money since spent on a rifle after years of saving and shoveling....
 
Things are different when you're from montanna.

Anyways, i never see it as stealing. I see it as "noone sold it at the time, what else could i do? buy a $100 collectors set?".

If i was banned for being a jerk (according to HLP ban message)....Shouldn't i have set an example?

All morals aside (what's done is done, it was downloaded years ago. Whether or not i used turey's installer and the GW disk images makes no difference now) - how do i fix my tech problem?
 
You don't.

You've refused to get hold of the game legitimately but instead insist that we should spend time troubleshooting problems with the files you currently have even though you admit that you've already suffered a HD crash and the files might therefore be corrupt. The fact that the retail launcher also appears to crash only bears me out on that fact.

Sorry but no. I'm certainly not wasting my time doing that. Your downloaded files are almost certainly corrupt and even if they weren't they are hugely out of date and are going to cause us lots of problems trying to figure out what is going on.
