Land of disappointment
Capture the flag. I want it. Playing capture the flag in arwings would be amazing.
Also protect the carrier. One team protects a carrier while it goes from point A to point B, and the other team tries to stop them. King of the hill/base/fort/area of space; That would be cool, but not as fun as protect the carrier. Other suggestions? :)
 
-team deathmatch (4 vs 4) (6 vs 6) or more.
-cage deathmatch (1 vs 1)
-capture the base
-hardcore team deathmatch (same vs same) but 1 or 2 shots you are down
-tango down (free for all) (lol name) (or mabye fox down or wolf... for be more like SF)
-express match (team deathmatch whit less time of the round)
-air superiority (free for all) (one life or one airwing to use because of not have money LOL!)
-the gold wings (1 vs 6) of course he will have more power and speed and when it fall the one who destroy him would be the new gold wings
-YOU vs WOOOOOOORLD!!!!! (1 vs 100) LOL! <this is a random idea

1.-fox team (fox team rulz) [blue]
2.-wolf team [red]
3.-falco team [? green i think]

i guess that would have EPIC LAG, and i don't think it is every computer out there that can handle rendering all those fighters...
i think most would fail to 50, but i don''t know the potential of the newest PCs so...

still one hell of a stupid idea.
 
Max players in a given multiplayer game is 8 for TvT or Coop modes, 12 for free-for-all dogfights.
 
Almost every single one of those are completely or mostly possible. You just have to make them up yourselves. Or wait for somebody else to, that could work.
Besides of course the limits that The E mentioned.
 
The issue is that, in FFA matches, most of the communication between players and the server consists of status updates for the player ships. Current position, orientation, velocity, shots fired, etcetera. In a typical TvT or especially Coop setup, you have to add message traffic from the server to deal with mission events on top of that. That whole processing takes resources.

While it may be possible to increase those limits (they were instituted back in '99, when net speeds were low and PCs far less powerful), there's also the problem of mission design.
It's incredibly hard to make missions that are consistently challenging when there are several human players playing them (for Coop), or with enough tasks to challenge 8 players in TvT (most TvT missions in FS2 are as basic as they come, simple team dogfights).
 
Actually the main issue with TvT is the fact that the interface can only deal with 4 ships per player wing. If it could deal with 6 you could probably have 12 player TvT right now.

Coop actually has a limit of 12 players for the same reason.
 
I suggest put a 4-coop missions of hard boss battles, just like MGS: PW. Imagine a very big airship in which you have to destroy the cannons, the engines, the armor and all that stuff.

There can be two or three difficulties: Normal, Hard and Extra Hard.

Those MGS: PW boss battles are insane and extremely fun, and i would love that for a Starfox game. I highly recommend this suggestion.

Strange that you should both ask...
Co-op missions are very possible, you just have to make them yourself, or edit an existing mission to become co-op.
And there are 5 difficulties, and the mission designer gets to decide what that means for the player, whether it's better AI, tougher or more enemies, etc...
 
i think of something that "space domination" (is like domination in modern warfare 2, but in this game, should be awesome, a mix with team deatmatch and capture the base)
 
I'd say some kind of Race. To an objective.
Like both team have a same objective and the first to complete it wins.
Thought it's hard to think about many objectives else than destroy something in a space shooter.

Also something like "Assault" in Unreal tournament, but I guess it's like Capture the Base.
 
How about a mode where you and your wingmen have AI allies and fight against other players who have the same setup. Got the idea from Land of Chaos Online.
