Note that these are not a replacement for the retail Freespace 2 VP files, so you must be using a TC based on the engine, or have the retail Freespace 2 VPs (ie by installing Freespace 2) The system requirements are higher than than with the previous MediaVP builds. For full quality you will need a GFX card with Shader Model 3.0 support, as well as an up-to-date build. =====(2) Installation: First make sure that no older MediaVPs are left in your Freespace 2 directory. The only VP that can be left in your Freespace 2 directory is the FS2cutscenepack.vp. Do not use the mv_cell.vp. It is currently not suported. Extract the new MediaVP files to a new folder, named "MediaVP", in your Freespace 2 directory. Use the launcher to select this directory as Mod. =====(3) FAQ: Q: "I installed mv_cell, but my textures still look normal - what's wrong?" A: In order to use cell-shading properly, you must remove all packages except mv_core, mv_music and mv_cell Q: "I have no idea what I'm doing! How do I get everything working?" A: Check the Wiki for the section called 'Downloading and Installing' (Link is at the bottom of this file) Q: "What's the difference between the different effects files?" A: mv_effects contains the base effects. mv_adveffects contain effects for VERY high-end systems. Q: "Is there a manual or tutorial for fs2_open?" A: Indeed there is! Check out the Wiki link at the bottom of this document. Q: "Freespace 2 crashes when I use effect X! What can I do?" A: Post a topic in the HLP forums, or report it using Mantis. Check the links at the bottom of the file Q: "Levels are loading slowly. Is there any way to speed them up?" A: Note that the first time a ship is loaded, its load time will be significantly longer the first time than it will be the rest of the time. If load times still haven't gotten good enough once most ships have been loaded at least once, try removing or disabling features or mediaVP files. Q: "My computer runs really slowly when I use VP X! What can I do?" A: Don't use it. ;) If you're really committed to using part of a VP, you'll have to create one yourself. It isn't too hard once you get the hang of it; look up VP files in the Wiki. Q: "Some textures seem be missing/broken in mod/campaign X. Why is that`?" A: To make more efficient use of mipmaps and to decrease use number of used maps, the lod/texture system has been completely overhauled.
